Simon the Digger is the main protagonist of the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann series.
Background[]
Deep in an underground village, there lived a young boy known as Simon the Digger. Having lost his parents to a cave in, Simon didn’t want much in life, only having a drill to dig through the rocks around him, with a mole and his more ambitious best friend Kamina at his side. All seemed peaceful, if stagnant, until the day he and Kamina had found a strange red mechanical head along with a small golden drill. After reaching the surface in this mecha known as “Lagann” and discovering the vast world for themselves, they would form a group of rebel human mecha pilots, later known as Team (Dai) Gurren, waging war against the beastmen who guarded the upper surface, and King Lordgenome, who had oppressed said humans to force them into living underground in the first place.
Simon was at the forefront, at first only following in the shadow of Kamina and seemingly only needed to pilot Lagann. But after Kamina’s untimely death and a chance meeting with a mysterious girl named Nia, Simon was forced to grow up, steeling his resolve and leading the war with a sense of renewed confidence. Alongside his friends, they would fight through their beastman oppressors and topple the king from his throne. And with this victory, came a newfound era of peace and freedom for mankind.
But, this wasn’t the end; far from it. As it turns out, Lordgenome had kept oppressing humanity not for his own mad power, but to stave off the Anti-Spirals, a race of cosmic beings who seek to oppress all life with the power of Spiral Energy, rendering them static and united at the cost of their free will and ability to evolve. Stopping Lordgenome only prompted the Anti-Spirals to attack and take Nia, leading Simon and the rest of Team Dai-Gurren into another dimension in order to wage war on the Anti-Spirals head on. Simon and the others fought the fight of their lives to save the universe and Nia from the unmoving nothingness of the Anti-Spiral, through stars, galaxies, and even alternate dimensions, finally stopping the reign of the Anti-Spirals once and for all. It came at the cost of many friends sacrificing themselves, including Nia, who kept herself together just long enough to marry Simon. But with the future in the hands of mankind and all life in the universe to evolve and find a way to maintain balance throughout, Simon wandered the earth to make it a better place in Nia’s name, truly having grown up into his own man.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Spiral Power: As a Spiral being, he is capable of evolving with the use of Spiral Power, becoming more capable as he retains his willpower or "fighting spirit". Simon's first instance of using Spiral Power without Gunmen involved was in episode 15, where he used only his Core Drill to project his energy, blowing a hole into Lordgenome. The novelization states that Simon became a truly awakened Spiral being, some time before becoming the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren's engine, which requires a Spiral being with truly awakened Spiral Power. Before emerging from the ultra-dense space, Simon already had galactic reserves of Spiral Power, which is also a prerequisite to becoming Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren's power plant. In episode 26, Simon had gained access to infinite amounts of Spiral Power, after merging with every possible version of himself throughout the infinite multiverse. This makes sense, since Spiral Power is proportionate to the user's willpower, and Simon had taken in the will of infinite versions of him. Simon, with his unfathomably large amount of Spiral Power, was able to catch up to match Antispiral's own power via evolution, and eventually overtake him as the universe's most powerful. Towards the end of the final battle, Simon with Nia in Lagann, were able to kill Antispiral, with their combined Spiral Power. In the movie version, Simon had done the final blow, on his own, without a Gunmen.
- Energy Absorption: Simon and Gurren Lagann have demonstrated the ability to absorb additional Spiral Energy for further empowerment, from Gurren Lagann being able to catch and redirect energy attacks with its drill, Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann being able to absorb Spiral Power after space around them had been transformed back into energy, or most impressively, when Simon was able to absorb the entirety of the Multiversal Labyrinth and integrate it within himself.
- Force Fields: Shields can be formed from Spiral Energy for general defense, deflecting even energy blasts at close range.
- Integration: In the novelization, Simon used his Core Drill to repair his Hand Drill by fusing them together, via the former object. In episode 26, Simon integrates the Multiverse to himself, as per the Work Soul guidebook.
- Singularity: Upon integrating the Multiverse to his body, he also merged with every possible version of himself; past and future versions, alternate versions, along with the past and future of those alternatives, having all of their experiences and knowledge. There is only one Simon in the entire Multiverse, meaning he can't be seen in the past or future, and there is no alternative outcome for him, as he now chooses the path he wants to walk down. This inturn makes him completely invulnerable to the Multiverse Labyrinth, which sends his consciousness drifting to other universes, which is now impossible, since there is no other body for his consciousness to transfer to.
- Summoning: In episode 11, while digging out of the bedrock prison from the Beastmen, Lagann dug to his location to save him and the team, when Simon gained back his fighting spirit.
- Enhanced Senses: In the novelization, Simon with the use of his Spiral Power had senses that matched even Viral's, who's stated to have superior senses to that of humans.
- Electricity Resistance: In episode 22, Simon tanked the electrical attack of the Kuu-Mugann.
- Weapon Creation: Simon's first time creating an object out of his Spiral Energy isn't too noteworthy, as he creates a mini Core Drill to breakthrough Rossiu's door in the Arc-Gurren Lagann; shown in Lagann-hen. This ability had become significantly better later on, where he is able to create the galactic-scale Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann in the final battle.
- Transmutation: Simon upon emerging from the ultra-dense space, converted his Digger Goggles into Star Sunglasses. At the end of his fist fight against Antispiral in Lagann-hen, Simon transmutated all their leaked blood into his final Giga Drill.
- Pocket Universe Creation: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is a mech that requires a Super Spiral Universe to be created inside of it to exist, and so Simon creates this realm, so that Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann may emerge.
- Regeneration: After the creation of the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, all members of Dai-Gurren were given the ability to reform their bodies as long as their consciousness exists; demonstrated by Lordgenome.
- Probability Fluctuations: Simon is capable of damaging Antispiral, who stated that the chances of winning in his universe is absolute 0, corroborated by the fact that when Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann fired a myriad of shots towards him, he remained unscathed.
- Gravity Manipulation: In the novelization, Simon adjusted the gravity field in the final battle, to draw the surrounding galaxies into Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann's vicinity, creating the Hyper Galaxy Belt.
- Soundwaves: The novelization states that at towards the end of the final battle, Simon's cry alone was enough to shake an entire galaxy.
- Blood Manipulation: During his fist fight with Antispiral, he formed a giga drill from their spilled blood.
- Regeneration Negation: Simon's drill nullified Antispiral's ability to regenerate any damage to his body.
- Ressurection: Is implied to have the ability to resurrect the dead, but does not want to use this power, preventing the abuse of Spiral Power, as per Antispiral's wish. The novelization explains that utilizing this ability could highly likely bring about the Spiral Nemesis
- Gunmen Piloting: Gunmen were created by the Spiral King, Lordgenome, for Spiral Warriors to pilot, using their Spiral Power to power and control mecha. Additionally, the condition of the Gunmen is reflected upon the pilots; ie, the pilots feel the pain and retain the injuries. Spiral Power doesn't just power the Gunmen, it also assists the mecha in producing abilities for the user to adapt to certain situations in battle.
- Integration: This ability is a standard feature of the Lagann-type Gunmen, being able to integrate other Gunmen into its own system, with the use of pilot's Spiral Power; all integrated Gunmen are controlled by Lagann. The largest amount of mecha Simon has shown to merge together is 11, in the Lagann-hen movie, where all Tengen Toppa Gunmen form the Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
- Spiral Power Forcefield: In episode 3, moments before Lagann merged with Gurren, the former created a force field to block Enki's beam.
- Bodily Weaponry: Lagann and Gurren Lagann have retractable and extendable drills in its arms and head and throughout its entire body, respectively. Gurren Lagann also retains the Glasscutter from Gurren, which is a much more versatile weapon.
- Size Enhancement: These drills can be created in different sizes and shapes. The most notable use for this ability is when it performs the Giga Drill Break, creating a Giga Drill about as large as the mech itself.
- Multiplication: Simon can multiply the amount of Glasscutters up to 5 times, as shown in Gurren-hen. This ability is used to pin an opponent in the air, to induce Gurren Lagann's signature attack.
- Energy Detection: Lagann has a Spiral Radar that is capable of locating energy signatures within its range.
- Attack Reflection: In episode 17, Simon with Gurren Lagann, took a Mugann's beam and threw it right back at them.
- Shockwaves: In episode 21, Gurren Lagann created a shockwave large and powerful enough to destroy a large amount of Mugann in space.
- Magnetic Field Warping: The sheer force of Gurren Lagann's drill's Spiral Power could distort a magnetic field to draw in all the Moon's beams, as per the novelization.
- Space-Time Rupturing: Via Arc-Gurren Lagann's Space-Time Rupturing Burst Spinning Punch, which broke through reality itself, to send the Kuu-Kyo-Mugann to the end of the space-time continuum.
- Teleportation: In episode 23, Gurren Lagann was instantly teleported to Rossiu's location, at the moment of recognition.
- Space-Time Warping: Using Spiral Energy, time and space can be bent in various means. This can allow users to teleport to other locations or alternate dimensions with thought alone, pierce through reality, or send attacks through time and space to attack the future, past, and present simultaneously. Simon has even punched foes hard enough to send them to the “far end of the space-time continuum.”
- Probability Manipulation: One of Spiral Energy’s more bizarre applications is the ability to manipulate probability itself. This was weaponized by the Anti-Spirals to prevent Team Dai-Gurren from traveling to their location, but can be applied in combat defensively by making it so even if an attack physically hits, probability will be altered so that no damage was received, or offensively to make attacks do damage regardless of if the target was able to block or avoid said attacks in the first place. While TTGL only used this offensively via the probability altering missiles, given that the Anti-Spirals were able to still use this power while fighting on even ground, and TTGL was able to break through the probability alteration still, it’s likely they can apply the defensive method in the same manner.
- Extrasensory Perception: Similar to Kamina, Simon could sense Viral's killing intent, and could dodge his sneak attack via the novel, shown in episode 15.
- Superhuman Strength: Even without the use of Spiral Power, Simon has a list of feats that showcases immense strength. With his hand drill, he is capable of creating illogically large holes within seconds. Could handle a full force punch from Kamina. While held in Lincarne Prison, Simon fought on par with the likes of Viral, who was strong enough to kick a larger beastman through a concrete wall, before their match together. In episode 23, Simon's punch sent Rossiu flying, and created a shockwave that destroyed the latter's hairtie.
- Superhuman Speed: In episode 6, Simon was quick enough to run along side Kamina, away from the Itamirūpu (the bathhouse Gunmen). Was able to keep up with Viral in a fight.
- Space-Time Viewing: Simon views all possible universes of all possible doppelgangers of himself in the multiverse as pillars of light, then integrates with them. With infinite possibilities, infinite universes were being integrated by Simon in the multiverse. The novelization explanation goes even further, Simon did not only absorb the variations of himself in parallel, but every place, every time including the past and future where the innumerable selves of Simon lives in the multiverse of infinite possibilities.
- Acasuality: They operate on a different and irregular system of cause and effect than regular causality. This grants them resistance to abilities such as Causality Manipulation, Fate Manipulation, and Precognition, among others.
- Higher-Dimensional Existence: TTGL possesses an entire Super Spiral universe within itself; which is a 10 +1 dimensional brane universe. TTGL and its superior form also scale to the Anti-Spiral. The Anti-Spiral created their own universe with extra dimensions within it, an 11-dimensional universe and able to control it completely at will according to their own.
- Miscellaneous:
- Spatial Manipulation Resistance:
- Time Manipulation: Upon absorbing the Multiverse Labyrinth, his power has been stated to transcend space and time itself.
- Probability Manipulation Resistance: Can land hits on The Anti-Spiral, who has this ability.
- Mind Manipulation: Managed to escape the Multiverse Labyrinth which affects the mind of those within it.
- Capable of decreasing their enemy's winning percentage to 0% within their universe and can passively alter the opponents' probability of defending attacks and avoid being hit by manipulating multidimensional probability fluctuations.
- Regeneration Negation: Simon's drill nullified Antispiral's ability to regenerate any damage to his body.
- Piloting: Simon originally had no skills when using a Gunmen. Simon never fought using Lagann as most of the time, he was in Gurren Lagann or taking control of a Gunmen. However, after Kamina dies, Simon is forced to be the dominant pilot of Gurren Lagann, meaning he has to be the one that fights, rather than someone else. With enough time doing this, he had built up the necessary experience to become a proficient pilot, even matching the Spiral King in a fight with Gurren Lagann.
- Skilled Digger: As per his nickname, Simon is a digger first, and one of the best diggers in his village. In his fight with his first Gunmen, he dug a hole large enough to fit both Kamina and Yoko, in a short moment. He saved himself and Kamina from Viral's Enki Sun Attack by digging a tunnel in almost an instant. Throughout the series, his digging skills have transferred over to his piloting, utilizing Lagann and Gurren Lagann's drilling capability to gain tactical advantages underground. Simon is also able to read bedrock; where it's softer, where he should dig specifically, all at a glance.
- Martial Arts: Simon in is capable of keeping up with Lordgenome in a fight with Lagann and Gurren Lagann, without any prior traditional training; with only his limited experience in piloting, which he has only done for a little bit at the time. When becoming the Commander-in-Chief of Kamina City, he started training in Martial Arts, and was stated to become quite proficient with only 3 years in training. For the remaining 4 years, who knows how much more skill Simon has acquired. This is even corroborated by him being able to keep up with an elite soldier of Lordgenome's army (Viral), in prison. In the ending of Lagann-hen, Simon, without any Gunmen, engages Antispiral in a fight, the latter being an embodiment of an entire race worth of consciousnesses, and wins. Even within such a small timeframe, Simon had become an incredible Martial Artist, and this is because of his own gifted mind along with the Spiral Power's ability to increase the rate at which a being achieves greater heights.
- Artist: Simon is a talented sculptor. Shortly after Kamina's death, Simon spends a chunk of his time sculpting statues of his fallen blood brother, with just his drill. This talent is again later put to use when he sculpts the large iconic statue of Kamina which was on display in one of Kamina City's parks. In the Otoko no Jouken drama CD, Simon grows up to become a notable mangaka who creates a story loosely based off the events in the earlier drama CDs and calls it Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. However, the Simon from this story, Simon Avant, walks out of the pages and captures the mangaka in his own core drill.
- Leadership: Simon in part 2 had become a better leader than even Kamina. In part 1, Simon only had his strength and Kamina had his charisma, which both of those are necessary for a true leader, and Simon had gained both of those, making him a true leader. Even Kittan noted Simon as a first-rate commander. In part 3, Simon had been Kamina City's Commander-in-Chief for 7 years.
- Strategist: Simon, like Kamina, is also a great strategist, being able to come up with simple, yet efficient plans, either within a short timeframe or even in the heat of battle. In episode 3, Simon thought up an idea on how to sneak attack Viral, who, mind you, is tough to sneak up on multiple times. Against Dai-Gunzan the first time, Simon with his ability to read bedrock, immediately thought up a plan on how to trap Dai-Gunzan. Against Dai-Gundo, Simon thought up the idea of attacking directly under Guame, with nobody being able to immediately notice that he wasn't on the field anymore, but rather under it.
Equipment[]
- Hand Drill: This is Simon's digging tool, which obviously by its purpose, is made to help the user mobilize underground.
- Digger Goggles: Simon also has a pair of goggles that helps him see in the dark while he digs.
- Core Drill: The Core Drill is the key that’s used to turn on Lagann. A small, key-like drill that Simon finds during one of his digs and is subsequently almost always seen in his possession or in the keyhole powering Lagann. The Core Drill is shown to power Lagann. The Core Drill can also sometimes be seen glowing from within with Spiral Power. The Core Drill is also not the only one of its type, as Lordgenome knows of its existence, and by the fact that the rest of Team Dai-Gurren is able to obtain one for each member to power a Lagann during the final two episodes of the series. Simon finds the Core Drill in the dirt while digging a tunnel in Giha Village. He immediately stops his work and leaves the tunnels, and bumps into Kamina, who reassures him that "... drills are your soul, Simon." Later, after bringing Kamina and Yoko to the unearthed Lagann, Simon figures out that the Core Drill is some sort of power source for Lagann, and uses it to start the mech. From then on, it is almost always seen powering Lagann or around Simon's neck. The Core drill is then passed on to Gimmy Adai after the death of Nia and Simon's chosen exile. Apparently, the Core Drill acts as a conduit for Spiral Power and is not limited to only powering Lagann. This is seen when Simon stabs Lordgenome in the chest with it and turns it, resulting in a spectacular blast of Spiral Power that rips a hole in Lordgenome's chest.
- Drill Staff: A staff tipped with a large drill that Simon carried during his time as a wanderer. So far, it hasn't been used as a weapon, though it most likely could.
- Gunmen: Simon owns mecha which he uses in situations where his other weapons may not be of use, especially against more powerful opponents.
- Lagann: Simon's first personal Gunmen. Lagann is a Gunman found by Simon in the first episode while digging tunnels in his village. It received its name, Lagann (羅顔), meaning "enveloping face", from Kamina and draws power from the Core Drill, a small golden drill Simon uses similar to an ignition key. In Gurren Lagann Parallel Works episode 8, it's revealed that the first Laganns were found by Lordgenome as a child during the Anti-Spirals' initial assault on Earth long before the series' story begins and as such were used as a basis in the creation of all Gunmen that appear in the show to use against their enemies. However, after Lordgenome's betrayal he seemingly destroyed all of them except for the one that was placed deep underground until Simon finds it.
- Lagann Impact: Lagann impacts the opponent with its drills which is usually incorporated with its signature assimilating abilities.
- Gunman Fusionism: Lagann has the power to assimilate/take over other Gunmen that it drills into. The prime example is drilling into Gurren to make Gurren Lagann, but it does work on other machines such as Dai-Gunzan. Like Lagann's other powers, this is tied to the pilot's willpower.
- Gurren Lagann: Was also Simon's personal Gunmen, but only for part 3. For all other parts, a second pilot has been present.
- Gunmen Integration: Due to Lagann's influence, Gurren Lagann can spontaneously integrate parts of other Gunmen into itself. This ability gives Gurren Lagann its signature helmet (originally taken from Viral's Enki), and is later used to acquire a set of wings for the Gunmen (by impaling a flying Gunmen with four drills and attaching it to Gurren Lagann's back). In both cases, the stolen parts immediately reconfigured into forms complimenting the main body of the mecha, mostly by changing colors.
- Flying Kicks: Gurren lagann can physically fight by doing deadly flared flying kicks. There are many variations of this, from simply calling it "Gurren Lagann Kick", "Burning Man's Fire Kick", "Hinokuma Kick" to "Super Inazuma Kick" (paying homage to Gunbuster).
- Man's Anger Bursting Slash: A technique to slit the opponent vertically with the Gurren Boomerang.
- Troy Del Burst: A technique to drive a number of drills onto the ground and cause a crack. It was chased by Dai-Ganzun in the seventh episode, and it was used by Simon when he fell into a dilemma. In the manga version, the technique name was displayed when being used.
- Superconducting Rifle: The mouth of the Gurren part opens, and Yoko who is getting on as a sub-pilot from there fires a sniper, with "lock on" characteristic. Although it can not secure the stability necessary for sniper, it is unusable after the movement, but since the hit correction is high and the range is long, the thing that can not do anything when counterattacking decreases.
- Gurren Boomerang: GL throws sunglasses at opponents like a boomerang. In SRW Second Z Breakout Story, it has the longest range and relatively low fuel consumption, so it will become the mainstay of counterattack.
- Glasses Cutter: A real sword worn on the chest. Originally equipped with Gurren, imitating the sunglasses Kamina wore, it is mostly used as an anti-aircraft weapon.
- Giga Drill Break: Gurren Lagann pins the opponent, usually a powerful enemy mecha, by throwing its sunglasses as a boomerang. As the sunglasses fly, they split into two. Once they have pinned the mecha in the air, Gurren Lagann summons its Giga Drill while screaming the attack's name. Gurren Lagann then flies towards the pinned mecha, drilling straight through it. This is then quickly followed by an explosion of the pinned mecha. The sunglasses boomerangs emerge from the explosion, reunite into a single pair, then fly back onto Gurren Lagann's lower face.
- Skull Break: A technique to release a punch, activate the drill at the moment the fist hits, destroy only the inside of the enemy gunmen. It was used by Simon at the beginning of the 9th episode when he was desperate destroying the enemy Gunmen.
- Full Drillize: A technique to stretch the surrounding enemies by massive elongation of thin long drills from the whole body. To be precise, the condition where the drill protrudes as far as possible from the whole body is called "full drilling form".
- Giga Drill Maximum: Gurren Lagann surrounds itself with Giga Drills to do damage to all mechas around it.
- Double Boomerang Spiral: Gurren Lagann removes its wings and sunglasses, then throws them both as boomerangs at the target.
- Giga Drill Break Team Dai-Gurren Special: Giga drill break of a hot-blooded friendship with the rest of Team Dai-Gurren.
- Dai-Gurren:
- Arc-Gurren Lagann:
- Space-Time Shattering Burst Spinning Punch: A massive uppercut charged with Spiral Power. The sheer brute force of the punch can shatter the fabric of space-time, sending its victim flying straight out of the universe.
- Vortex Cannon Maximum: GIGA DRILL MAXIMUM's beam gun version, released by Artenborough Cortich and shot down most of the Mugann.
- Arc-Gurren Lagann Giga Drill Break: Gurren Lagann's Giga Drill Break, but sized for Arc Gurren Lagann. Used only in the second movie adaptation of the show; The Lights in the Sky are Stars. Also used durring the downgrading of Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann against the Super Grand Zamboa.
- Super Inazuma Drill Kick: An intense flying kick that crushed the Cathedral Lasengann's punch.
- Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann:
- Shoulder Drills: Instead of making drills out of spiral power like other forms of Gurren Lagann, Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann detaches the drills on its shoulders and attaches them over its hands. These drills can be placed on top of each other for a stronger attack.
- Fingertip Drills: Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann pierces the enemy with finger drills and blows them up.
- Super Galaxy Mega Cutter: It removes its massive sunglasses from its torso and throws them as a boomerang.
- Full Drillize: In the case of Gurren Lagann it itself functioned as an attack, but in Super Galaxy it is the name of an attack. Because the main body itself is huge, each one of the drills is in full drilling mode, and all of them are super spiral cannons. Like the Gurren Lagann, it also has the power to create drills from many points on its body at once.
- Multi-Cannon Shot: Multidimensional Probability Variation Control technique with cannons that shoot down omnidirectionally to every single point of space-time.
- Super Galaxy Giga Drill Break: Although it is the same as the original Giga Drill Breaker, this form is the most powerful. The two drills on the mecha's shoulders combine on a single hand attack the enemy. Its sheer power destroyed an Ashtanga battleship in one hit.
- Tengen Toppa Lagann: Simon's third personal Gunmen. It is the Tengen Toppa version of Lagann, manifested by Simon's thoughts. Tengen Toppa Lagann has the ability to form drills on itself just as Lagann does.
- Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann:
- Drill Proficiency: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann can also produce its drills all around the entire body, after absorbing the Infinity Big Bang Storm, which followed with a power boost, and can also be seen fighting against the Anti-Spiral.
- Enki Swords: Used by Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann which is produced as Enki/Enkidu/Enkidudu's swords after Yoko's Sniper Rifle was destroyed in order to counterattack the Anti-Spiral, which was later broken during the duration of the battle.
- Yoko's Sniper Rifle: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann uses a galaxy-sized version of Yoko's Sniper Rifle in order the counterattack and shoot directly at the Granzeboma's forehead to reveal the bits of the Anti-Spiral homeworld, which is later destroyed.
- "I've Got The Best Wife In The Universe" Swing: An attack named by Dayakka about his wife. Dayakka and Gabal release hooks from their respective parts of the Tengen Toppa, that tie around the opposing mecha. The Tengen Toppa then grabs the hooks' rope and swings the opposing the mecha in the air, then lets go and lets the opposing mecha fall.
- Probability Alteration Missles: An attack used by Artenborough which fires a lot of small, drill-like missles out from it's right leg directly at the Granzeboma.
- Fist Barrage: An unnamed attacked performed by the surviving members of Team Dai Gurren in The Lights in the Sky are Stars. The Tengen Toppa shoots out a barrages of fists to attack the Granzeboma. It only appears in the movie but not in the series.
- Matter Creation: Gurren Lagann can, via command from a pilot, create and manipulate matter from Spiral Power that its user desires. This is especially helpful in combat.
- Lazengann Overload: Lordgenome, while in Lazengann, sacrifices himself down to the quantum level, allowing him to absorb the energy of Antispiral's Infinity Big Bang Storm, an attack more powerful than the birth of the universe, and convert it into an extreme powerup for TTGL, allowing TTGL to evolve in the show and enabling its transcendence into Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann in the movies.
- Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann:
- Spiral Power: Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann's Spiral Power is immense, as its pilots have gone through many powerups, prior to its creation. Simon integrated the multiverse itself, to his body, thereby merging all possible versions of himself throughout infinite alternate realities, along with their pasts and futures. Taking in the will of his selves, through that many realities, would boost his Spiral Power reserves to infinite levels. After appearing in front of Antispiral, he forms Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, which in turn, gives all members of Dai-Gurren the same power as Simon. Moments later in the battle, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann breaks apart into 12 different Gunmen, each of which remain as powerful as they were when they were together, via their inheritance of TTGL's generated Spiral Energy. Later on, Lordgenome with his Lazengann sacrifices himself to convert the Infinity Big Bang Storm's energy into Spiral Energy for Team Dai-Gurren to merge their Gunmen together. Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is the merging of 11 Tengen Toppa Gunmen, after Simon's distribution of this energy to everyone else.
- Super Tengen Toppa Giga Drill Break: This is Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann's greatest attack/finishing move. Clashing with Antispiral's "Anti-Spiral Giga Drill Break", had released an immensely massive amount of energy, so much so that Antispiral's Universe collapsed into a dimensionless void, because of the incredible mass crushing the entirety of space-time itself. This is how the Spiral Nemesis is described to be the effect of; an annihilation of all reality. Although, this battle was taking place in a space-time, separated from the multiverse.
- Sky Cannon Gurren Lagann:
- Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann:

- At minimum, 3.2320924e71c to 7.8667756211532179371904012341764781821162425640474251... × 10^106 c.
- Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann’s sniper shots can travel light years in seconds (25 quintillion c).
- Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann also managed to dodge lasers from the Granzeboma that were moving at comparable speeds to the sniper shots (5:08).
- Comparable to the Granzeboma, who threw TTGL several times in less than a second (4:55) (26 quadrillion-13.6 quintillion c).
- Flew to the Anti-Spiral’s homeworld as Lagann (438.15 billion-231.56 trillion c).
- TTGL and STTGL’s sheer sizes mean they’re traveling millions to billions of light years in seconds.
Durability[]
- Gurren Lagann survived Enki slamming it into the ground, creating a massive explosion (6.975 megatons of TNT).
- Tanked being hit by a massive tidal wave (395.432 megatons of TNT).
- Gurren Lagann survived the Dai Gunkai exploding point blank, which caused a massive water explosion (1.275 teratons of TNT).
- Survived being smacked by the Teppelin’s massive hammer as Gurren Lagann (7:16) (5.7 exatons of TNT).
- Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann no-sold planets being thrown at it (3:00).
- Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann survived being swung to the ground multiple times by the Granzeboma (4:55).
- Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was still intact after being smashed through multiple galaxies by the Anti-Spiral.
- Survived the Anti-Spiral’s Infinity Big Bang Storm, which had enough power to match the creation of the universe.
- This same attack also obliterated Lazengann, making it suffer quantum breakdown (5.02134757e85 joules).
- This scales to the actual big bang, which in TTGL, created infinite possibilities.
- The overall mass of STTGL and its drill is INSANE (The main body is 3 septillion times heavier than our own universe and the drill is 80.57 nonillion times heavier than our universe).
Skill[]
- Defeated Viral, Lordgenome, Mugann, the Anti-Spiral.
- Freed humanity in the Beastman War and the universe in the Anti-Spiral War.
- Became Supreme Commander of Kamina City, the city founded on Teppelin's remains and effectively the leader of humanity and of Earth for 7 years.
- Generated the energy to keep Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren powered as it was actively siphoned off and converted into mass.
- Escaped and combined with the Multiversal Labyrinth.
- Swore to prevent the oblivion of the Spiral Nemesis from ever occurring.
- Became the strongest Spiral Warrior in the Universe.
- Got married.
Weaknesses[]
- While Simon is extremely powerful thanks to the near-limitless potential of Spiral Energy, this should not be mistaken for outright invincibility. There is a limit to how much damage even Gurren Lagann can take, as even its higher forms such as Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann have been destroyed with enough overwhelming power.
- Spiral Power also isn’t omnipotent, as it can be corrupted and disrupted with emotions such as anger and grief, though Simon has grown past this weakness thanks to greater experience and mastery. This energy can also be absorbed from Simon, as has occurred in the Anti-Spiral space, possibly dropping Gurren Lagann and its subsequent transformations down in power and becoming unable to operate.
