Rose Quartz is a major character and anti-hero of the television series Steven Universe. She is in fact Pink Diamond and assumed her fake identity to live on Earth and protecting the planet.
Background[]
Born as Pink Diamond she pleads to Yellow, Blue, and White to have a colony but she was seen as unfit to rule her own colonies as she was rather childish and irresponsible. Eventually they gave in and they allowed her make a colony and they gave her the planet Earth (leaving a lone Spinel behind at the garden at the end of it too). Bored of ruling the Earth she decides to mingle with Gemkind on Earth to the point she disguised herself as "Rose Quartz" and learn new things on Earth while having fun with her Pearl. However as time goes on she learns more of Earth's life and realizing that colonizing it would kill all of that life. She pleads to the Diamonds to cease colonizing the Earth but they never listen to her. Because of this, she assumed the "Rose Quartz" identity and rebelled against Homeworld after they threatened Earth, resulting in a lengthy war between Homeworld as her rebellion, the Crystal Gems. To end the war once and for all she commanded her Pearl to enact a fake shattering of Pink Diamond and Homeworld left the Earth but at a great cost. The Three Diamonds use all of their power to corrupt all of the remaining Crystal Gems on Earth, turning them into violent monsters. After this, she fell in love with a human named Greg and wound up having a child with him, at the expense of her physical body.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Gem Physiology: Rose possessed standard Gem abilities, including fusion, bubbling, regeneration, and superhuman durability. As she isn't truly a Rose Quartz, she possesses unique abilities those Gems don't have. The original bearer of the pink diamond gemstone, which is currently in possession of her son/successor, Rose would have been able to use all the abilities Steven has – and perhaps even more. She was highly proficient in combat. Her other abilities have been shown while she was in the form of Pink Diamond.
- Enhanced Strength: Being a Diamond in disguise, Rose had an immense amount of strength even compared to other Gems. She destroyed the control panel to a Ferris wheel with a single punch, stopped the malfunctioning Ferris wheel and ripped off one of the seats with her bare hands in "Greg the Babysitter."
- Enhanced Speed: Despite her size, Rose was extremely fast and agile. She destroyed a Ruby fusion quickly and precisely in "The Answer," and ripped off a Ferris wheel seat before quickly and easily catching a falling Greg and baby Sour Cream.
- Shield Proficiency: Rose had the capacity to summon her shield to protect her loved ones. She was capable of summoning it in various sizes. It is powerful enough to counter the effects of the Diamonds' Corrupting Light on the individuals inside the shield.
- Shapeshifting: Rose was adept enough in transformations to form a female human reproductive system, including a womb for Steven to be born from.
- Healing: Rose manifested her ability to heal through her tears. Her tears could heal broken Gems/gemstones, and heal other creatures of general injuries. In "Bubbled," Eyeball mentions that she heard rumors about how Rose used her healing power to keep her Crystal Gem soldiers in contention with Homeworld's superior forces during the Rebellion. In "Monster Buddies," Garnet tells Steven that Rose tried to use her powers to save Corrupted Gems, although she was never able to heal them.
- Resurrection: In "Lars' Head," it is implied that Rose could resurrect organic beings, giving them special powers in the process. The most notable example is Lion, whose salvation created the Pink Dimension.
- Empathic Telepathy: According to Garnet, Rose possessed the ability to sense others and connect with them. This power was mainly seen through Steven.
- Phytokinesis: Rose had the ability to grow sentient and not-sentient flora, which acted as her fighting guardians. The most notable examples are the magic spike vines in "An Indirect Kiss" and her magic moss.
- Speed of Descent Regulation: In "Steven Floats," it is revealed that Rose was able to alter her gravity, allowing her to control the speed of her ascent and descent. She was briefly seen using this power in "Story for Steven" and several times in "Greg the Babysitter".
- Electrical Interference: In "We Need to Talk," Rose appeared to be able to control Greg's radio, based upon her emotions. For instance, when she was shocked, the music stopped.
- High Intellect: Rose was proficient in military command and strategy, able to lead the Crystal Gems from the front-lines in a successful rebellion against their Homeworld. In "The Return," Jasper stated that Rose was a masterful tactician, a crucial skill that earned her renown.
Alternate Forms[]
Pink Diamond[]
- Diamond Physiology: As a Diamond, Pink Diamond was one of the most powerful Gems in existence. She possessed standard Gem abilities including Fusion, bubbling, shapeshifting, superhuman strength and durability. Her other abilities have been shown while she was in the form of Rose Quartz.
- Aura Projection: The Diamonds can project an aura around them that they can control; either radiating it from their entire bodies or emit it from specific parts of their bodies like their hands. Pink's aura manifests itself as a solid pink outline emitting pink circular waves. Though not much is known of her aura, Steven was able to use it to convince Blue and Yellow Diamond that he was Pink Diamond reincarnated.
- Corruption Induction: Though it could have been her hatred for the Diamonds talking, Bismuth initially believed Pink Diamond corrupted the remaining Gems on Earth, so it is possible that she had this power like the other Diamonds.
- Corruption Reversal: It was revealed (through Steven) that Pink Diamond, along with the other Diamonds, could reverse the corruption of a Gem. The corruption was reversed on the water of her fountain in "Change Your Mind".
- Gemstone Creation: Through using her breath and bare hands, Pink Diamond was able to create non-sentient gemstones and gemstone shards with dirt. She utilized this ability to fake her death by making gemstone shards mimicking the appearance of her own, but in shattered form.
- Pebble Animation: As implied in "Familiar", Pink Diamond's tears can bring inanimate stones to life.
- Sonic Scream: Referred as one of her "destructive powers," according to Pink Pearl in "Volleyball", Pink Diamond had a "scream that could crack the walls," as well as cause permanent damage to a Gem's physical form, Pink Pearl being the prime example of this. A similar destructive scream is also demonstrated by Gem Steven against White Diamond and her mind-controlled Gems in "Change Your Mind", since Gem Steven's scream was able to crack the floor of White Diamond's Ship and take down all the present Gems.
- Healing: Even though primarily shown in her alter ego form, in "Volleyball", Pearl said that Pink Diamond used her healing tears and powers even in her Diamond form.
- Enhanced Regeneration: Although Gems can generally reform with minimum variations to their form, Pink Diamond was able to reform permanently with the appearance of a different Gem type without negative repercussions.
- Spaceship Piloting: Pink Diamond had a spaceship only she was capable of controlling. According to Pearl, she wasn't a very graceful pilot, at least when it came to liftoff.
- Juggling: In "Familiar", Pearl said that Pink Diamond used to throw "massive balls", and Steven believed that Pearl was being literal and that Pink Diamond was a juggler. Pearl denied this for a second until she restated that Pink actually did juggle balls. This was proven further in "Together Alone", when Steven had a dream where he was Pink Diamond and juggling bubbles of miscellaneous objects.
- Party-Planning: Before Pink Diamond gained her colony, she used to throw balls, aka parties, in the Diamond Ballroom to mark the the many accomplishments of the Diamonds.
Equipment[]
- Rose's Sword: Rose possessed a great sword that she has used during battle. As stated in "Bismuth," the sword was designed for a fair fight, to cut through a Gem's physical form, destroying the body but never the gem. Bismuth calls it her "finest piece of work." It also had its own scabbard. It was later smashed by Blue Diamond in "Reunited."
- Laser Light Cannon: Rose once owned a cannon that shot a powerful beam that could destroy an object such as the Era 1 Red Eye that the Crystal Gems couldn't destroy on their own. It activates by reciting Greg's favorite catchphrase, "If every porkchop were perfect, we wouldn't have hotdogs." However, its strength is overwhelmed by current Homeworld technology. The weapon is currently in possession of the Gems after retrieving it from Greg's storage unit in the episode "Laser Light Cannon."
- Rose's Secret Armory: Rose had an armory full of Gem and human weapons and armors, including more Laser Light Cannons and the Robot Shooty Thing. She kept this place as a secret from the rest of the Crystal Gems, except Pearl, Lion, and presumably Bismuth. Lion brought Steven and Connie Maheswaran there in "Lion 2: The Movie."
Feats[]
Strength[]
- Easily poofed a fusion of three Rubies
- Destroyed a ferris wheel's control panel with one punch
- Stopped a malfunctioning ferris wheel from spinning by grabbing it, and tore off one of its seats
Speed[]
- Reacted to a fusion of three Rubies in split-second timing.
Durability[]
Skill[]
- Fought in a Gem War that lasted for a hundred years.
Weaknesses[]
- Gem Physiology: Gem bodies are fragile, and after sustaining enough damage they will disappear, leaving their gemstones vulnerable as they are forced to regenerate. Gems cannot regenerate if their gemstones are bubbled or contained in another object.
- Gemstone: If a Gem's stones are cracked, it leads to them becoming corrupted beasts, making them less intelligent and more feral. If a Gem's stone is shattered completely, then the completely cease to exist.
