Background[]
Hocotate Freight is a long-haul, deep space shipping company. Think of it like the FedEx of Solar Systems. One day, its only employee of any merit, Captain Olimar crashed on an uncharted planet while on an interstellar vacation. The planet was inhabited by vicious nocturnal predators that came out at night, and with his ship broken into pieces, Olimar was stranded on this strange alien planet with no hope for rescue.
That is, until he met and befriended the Pikmin, an alien race of miniscule, elemental plant-bugs. Pikmin are born in the ground and reproduce asexually, and so are very numerous and prominent species in the ecosystem. Unfortunately, they’re also at the very bottom of the food chain, and are too small and weak to fend for themselves individually. However, with Olimar’s leadership, he captained the Pikmin to work together and accomplish tasks, defend themselves against dangerous predators and eventually rebuild his ship, allowing him to finally return home to his family.
What he wasn’t prepared for, though, were the numerous times he would inevitably be forced to return to the planet of the Pikmin (secretly a post-apocalyptic Earth) due to various reasons. Be it further unplanned crash-landings onto the planet or his company, Hocotate Freight falling into debt and needing him to retrieve discarded alien treasure to save it from bankruptcy, Olimar made it his new occupation to return time and time again to PNF-404 and rally up the Pikmin to accomplish the impossible. To go where no Hocotatian has gone before…
Powers & Abilities[]
- Pikmin: Olimar himself doesn’t really possess any special powers of his own, however, the Pikmin he uses most certainly do. Olimar can command up to 100 Pikmin of various types at a time, and each type of Pikmin has its own abilities that Olimar makes full use of in his adventures. Pikmin are extremely loyal to their leader and follow orders without question. All the Pikmin go through a three-stage process of maturity signified by the flower stem on their heads. Full-bloomed Pikmin have reached full maturity and thus move faster, deal more damage and respond to orders more efficiently. Pikmin can be stored in Onions, which serve as nests for the Pikmin and can fly into space. Pikmin also have the unique ability to make their stems glow in the dark, though the reason they don’t do this often is probably due to the abundance of nocturnal predators that eat them.
- Red Pikmin: Red Pikmin can use their bodies to produce biological fire and are immune to flames and high temperatures
- Yellow Pikmin: Yellow Pikmin have the ability to generate biological electricity, and are also immune to all electrical damage.
- Blue Pikmin: Blue Pikmin can breathe and swim underwater, and even spit out stored water from their bodies.
- White Pikmin: White Pikmin store a special, biologically created poison in their bodies that they can spit out or automatically release upon death. This poison is incredibly potent, even being able to melt through steel. Having evolved in underground caves alongside the Purple Pikmin, their eyes can see in the dark. They’re naturally the fastest Pikmin type, as well as exceptional diggers.
- Purple Pikmin: Purple Pikmin can lift ten times their body weight and deal massive amounts of damage when attacking, creating large shockwaves that can stun enemies many times their size. Having evolved in underground caves alongside the White Pikmin, their antennae feelers let them navigate in the dark.
- Rock Pikmin: Rock Pikmin are the most durable type of Pikmin, and are immune to all types of blunt force and impalement due to their durable exoskeletons. Their rock-like anatomy lets them smash right through the armoured shells of enemies, glass barriers and crystals.
- Winged Pikmin: Winged Pikmin can fly freely through the air and even carry objects and people aloft with them into the skies.
- Bulbmin: Bulbmin are Bulborbs that have been infected by a parasitic species of Pikmin that dig into the host’s brain and control their actions. They have voracious appetites and are immune to all elements, including fire, electricity, water and poison. Juvenile Bulbmin can be controlled by Olimar, and the parasite Pikmin can latch on and control other beings.
Equipment[]
- Rocket Fist: Olimar's brute knuckles allow him to perform the Rocket Fist punch combo, as well as deliver powerful blows strong enough to stun enemies many times his size by enlarging his gloves to ridiculous proportions.
- Jetpack: Olimar's jetpack lets him fly through the air and cross gaps with ease, but has a limited fuel supply of 8 seconds of thrust before it depletes and needs to be recharged by landing back on the ground.
- Spacesuit Armors: Olimar can acquire several upgrades to his Spacesuit which give him increased defenses. The Scorch Guard and Anti-Electrifier provide him with elemental immunity to Fire and Electricity, and the Metal Suit Z greatly reduces all pain and damage taken from enemy attacks
- Sprays: Using the fruit nectar of certain Burgeoning Spiderwort plants, Olimar can create special concoctions that have unique effects on his enemies and his pikmin. The Ultra Spicy Spray, when used on his Pikmin, will temporarily boost all of their stats, making them twice as strong, faster and more durable for a short period of time. Olimar can also use the Ultra-Bitter Spray, which when used on his enemies, will temporarily petrify them in stone. The petrification is almost immediate, and it IS actual petrification, as when killed, petrified enemies leave no carcass behind and instead collapse into a pile of rubble.
- Rush Boots: The Rush Boots provide Olimar with an increase in running speed
- Radar: Captain Olimar’s trusty Radar gives him detailed information on the layout of the environment he’s in, the location and status of all his Pikmin, his ship, and lots more useful intel he can use to better navigate through hostile areas or plan around enemies.
- Whistle: Olimar’s whistle is arguably his most important tool. The whistle is what he uses to order and guide the Pikmin as well as rally them together when they may be lost, aloof, or even when they’re still buried in the ground. Olimar’s whistle has a wide radius and can call hundreds of Pikmin to him at a time. Pikmin respond to the specific vibrations of the whistle rather than the sound itself, as evidenced by the fact that only Yellow Pikmin have actual ears to hear with.
Feats[]
Strength[]
- Purple Pikmin can lift over ten times their body weight, and create shockwaves upon slamming into the ground that are powerful enough to paralyze larger enemies.
- Rock Pikmin can break through durable armoured shells, large crystals and barriers of reinforced glass.
- Thrown Pikmin are capable of breaking Gas Pipes.
- Olimar can throw punches strong enough to hurt large bosses and predators like the Titan Dweevil and Emperor Bulblax.
- Olimar’s Ship, The Dolphin, can apparently destroy stars.
Speed[]
- Fully Mature Pikmin (as well as Olimar) are fast enough to outpace most of their natural predators.
- Blue Pikmin can swim against fast currents.
- When equipped with the Dash Boots, Olimar can run against strong winds created by his enemies.
- Fast enough to react to and dodge Machine gun fire from the Man-at-Legs.
- Can dodge electricity from Titan Dweevil's Shock Therapist attack.
- Olimar’s reaction speed is fast enough to steer his ship through an asteroid field.
Durability[]
- Olimar survived his ship crashing into Earth from orbit on more than one occasion, and each time it happens, his ship seems to ignore typical terminal velocity since it begins its descent from outer space, and combusts during its trajectory. This combustion can only be accomplished when air friction reaches a certain intensity under speeds of 300-500 mph. In one instance, a group of Pikmin even survive being near the crash site.
- Olimar can survive blasts from Bomb Rocks, which have the destructive power to blow up cement walls and cinder blocks.
- With the Metal Suit Z, he can survive multiple attacks from enemies with little to no issues.
- Rock Pikmin are almost entirely impervious to blunt force and piercing.
Skill[]
- Survived being stranded on the hostile planet PNF-404 on four separate occasions.
- Overcomes and defeats enemies and predators far bigger than him on a daily basis
- Single Handedly saved Hocotate Freight from bankruptcy. Still can't get a raise.
- Encountered and defeated the Waterwraith, a strange entity anchored in another dimension that supposedly drives most people who encounter it insane.
- Expert survivalist, fauna connoisseur and talented researcher.
- Proud family man
Weaknesses[]
- Olimar is heavily reliant on Pikmin to accomplish all types of tasks for him, be it combat, exploration, or resource gathering. The Pikmin will typically follow Olimar's orders but are prone to getting lost, falling behind, or sometimes even forgetting what they were doing altogether, and therefore must be frequently called back in line by Olimar's whistle.
- The Pikmin are also completely aimless without Olimar's leadership, and are helpless to predators if they aren't being given explicit orders. They can be corrupted and overridden to turn against Olimar and their fellow Pikmin by other dangerous species.
- As a Hocotatian, Oxygen is deadly to Olimar and breathing it in could be fatal. Thankfully, his space suit typically has a 30-day supply of breathable air, but The Pikmin flourish in oxygen-rich environments.
- Also, he's… kind of a bad pilot. Olimar has been at the helm during 4 separate crash landings (Though none of them were explicitly his fault) and yet still somehow retains his Pilot's License.
