Moana is the titular main protagonist of the 2016 animated movie Moana, its 2024 sequel Moana 2, and its upcoming 2026 live-action remake.
Background[]
Moana was born in the village on Motunui, and is the daughter of the chief, Tui. Ever since she was little, she had an undying love for the ocean and sailing. Always in conflict with her dad, who forbade anyone from going beyond the reef, she originally tried to force herself to become a good chief. But after the darkness spread onto her island, as well as her grandma dying, Moana finally boarded a boat and sailed away. Her mission was to find Maui and restore the Heart of Tafiti.
Abilities[]
- Wayfinding: With Maui's aid, Moana eventually became a master sailor and wayfinder.
- Water Manipulation: Although she can't directly control it, the Ocean seems to be on her side, helping her when needed.
- Demigoddesshood: After perishing in the act of breaking Nalo's curse on Motufetu, Moana was revived as a demigoddess, receiving demigoddess tattoos and having her oar turned into a magic totem. The full extent of her demigoddess abilities is unknown, with the only mystical ability displayed being the power wayfinding to guide people across Oceania.
- Disney Heroes: Battle Mode Skills:
- Oceanic Shield: Moana shields herself, protecting her from damage for a few seconds. While shielded, Moana gains attack speed.
- Into the Fray: When Moana falls below a certain HP, she engages the nearest enemy with her oar, dealing splash damage. Moana then stays in melee range, attacking with her oar for the remainder of the fight.
- Love and Protection: Whenever someone on Moana’s team, including Moana herself, uses their active skill, the spirit of Moana’s grandmother heals Moana.
- Wayfinder: Love and Protection also grants Moana energy. This effect is reduced when the ally is above this skill’s level.
- Powerful Wave: When Moana is shielded from any sources, her basic damage is increased by 215926 and heals herself for 40% of the damage she deals. The basic damage bonus is doubled when Moana is below 75% of her max HP. The heal has a chance to fail if the source of the shield is level 195 or higher.
Equipment[]
- Harpoon: Moana is a surprisingly skilled fighter with a fishing harpoon, using it as a weapon during the movie.
- Oar: This was once an ordinary oar wielded against the Kakamora on Moana's journey, but was given magical abilities by Moana's ancestors after she was revived and turned into a demigoddess after breaking Nalo's curse surrounding Motufetu. The oar grants Moana the ability of wayfinding.
- Voyaging Boat: Moana's source of transportation is a voyaging boat, in which she is an expert at sailing.
Feats[]
Strength[]
- Broke a wooden plank by using an oar to smash a coconut-like creature through it.
- Tipped over a statue of Maui using the wall as leverage against the top of the statue.
- Used a rock/piece of coral to break coral that her foot had gotten caught in.
- Worth noting, Moana was underwater and panicking at the time.
- Hit Maui with an oar hard enough to wind him.
- Punched Maui hard enough to apparently make him feel it.
- Able to climb while carrying Pua on her back.
- Should scale to her crew in the sequel.
- Moni can casually lift rocks and large logs.
- Loto can damage wood with her weapon and move Maui's tied up body.
- Kele pulled a door closed against the forces of Moana and Moni.
- The 36 ghosts who made her a demigoddess were strong enough to restore Maui's powers, so it's not entirely unreasonable to assume she's close to Maui in power now.
Speed[]
- Grabbed a rope arrow, jumped off of a bouncy surface, threw the arrow hard enough to embed it deep enough in the mast of a boat to support her weight (also counts as a strength feat) and then, while still falling in mid-air, caught the oar on top of the rope and rappeled down to the boat.
- Leaped from a falling statue into a narrow ceiling crevice which she caught herself by extending her body to both ends of the walls and then slowly climbed upward out of the crevice.
- Caught up to Maui after he climbed a considerable rock wall without him noticing.
- Ascended a ladder fairly quickly.
- Skillfully dodged blow darts and a spear.
- Threw a rope around Loto's leg and somehow makes it tie itself to her leg.
- Swam about half as fast as magical lightning travelling through water.
Durability[]
- Not only survived a painful-looking fall, but showed no visible injury or even pain after getting up.
- Even Maui assumed it killed her.
- Fell down a massive drop into water with no damage.
- Got pummelled by the waves into a coral reef.
- Leaped off a cliff to Maui, only to come a few inches short in her jump and belly flop into the water, yet she was fine.
- Jumped from the top of her boat without issue.
- Got her face kicked to the floor by Heihei and practically no-sold it.
- Endured falling face-first onto wood.
- Tanked a shockwave that sent her canoe flying.
- Got blasted back by a lightning bolt that burnt through a roof, although it knocked her out for a few seconds.
- Directly got hit by Nalo's lightning; though it supposedly killed her, it gave zero burn marks and she didn't turn into a ghost, meaning it either knocked her out or people in Moana don't instantly become ghosts upon death.
Skill[]
- Became a master wayfinder.
- Helped trick Tamatoa by convincing him to sing about himself.
- Figured out that Te Kā was actually Te Fiti and restored her heart.
- Found and restored Motufetu, breaking Nalo's curse.
- Became a demigoddess.
Weaknesses[]
- Average Durability: Moana only has an average human durability, as one of Nalo's lightning bolts was able to kill her with ease.
- Limited Water Manipulation: Moana cannot get help from any water other than the ocean, which only helps when it wants to.
