Light Yagami is a Death Note character and also the main character in the story.

Background

Light grew up in Japan with his family, which consists of his father, Soichiro Yagami , who is a member of the Japanese Task Force(an investigation team and opposition to Kira), his mother, Sachiko Yagami, and his younger sister, Sayu Yagami.

In the year 2003 (2006 in the anime), Light Yagami discovers a mysterious notebook on the lawn at his school. Written on the cover are the words "Death Note". The Death Note instructions state that if a human's name is written inside, that person will die. Light is initially skeptical about the authenticity of the notebook, but he still takes him home and when he turns on the TV, he sees a live crime taking place, where a man was holding hostages, his name and his face is shown on the TV (facts necessary for the use of the Death Note), then Light writes his name and the criminal dies of a heart attack, just as the notebook itself mentioned (if the causes of death are not specified, the human dies of a heart attack 40 seconds later), but Light still couldn't believe it, and decided to test it in front of him.

In that time, he met Ryuk who is the Shinigami who owns the Death Note that Light Possessed. He explains to Light all about the Death Note in exchange for apples.

When he already knew that the power of Death Note was true, he started killing all criminals to become the god of the new world, where there were no bandits. However, halfway through, L appears as an obstacle that proved that Light would kill everyone who got in his way without being criminals.

Light Yagami ends up joining L's investigation group and, when the second Kira communicates with them, Light quickly realized that the second Kira had Shinigami's eyes. Light ends up meeting the second Kira, who was a girl named Misa Amane who was completely in love with him, due to having killed her parents' killer.

AfterL's death, Light assumed L's identity, and a new battle begins against Near and Mello who came to capture Kira after learning of L's death.

    1. The human whose name is written in this note shall die.
    2. This note will not take effect unless the writer has the person's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
    3. If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen.
    4. If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a Heart attack.
    5. After writing the cause of death, the details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds (400 seconds or approx. 6.66 minutes).
    6. The Death note will not affect those under 780 days old.
    7. A death note will be rendered useless if the victim's name is misspelled four times.
    8. If a death note is lost or stolen the owner will lose ownership unless it is retrieved within 490 days.

Strength

• Sent L flying with a punch.

Durability

• Was basically unmoved when L kicked him right in the head.
• Later, was unmoved when he was kicked in the face.
• Was even unmoved when Misa passionately punching him multiple times in a comedic fashion.
• Shrugs off getting shot multiple times, running around right afterwards, he seemingly would´ve survived the gunshots fully if Ryuk hadn´t written his name down afterwards.

• Even though Light was filmed by L's team, he pretended to be studying and eating potato chips, however, he was writing names of criminals he heard on a mini television inside the chip bag.
• He manipulated Raye Penber to kill all FBI agents by writing their names on a part of the Death Note.
• He tricked Naomi Misora into ​​revealing her identity to him.
