~ Klonoa |
Klonoa is the titular protagonist of the Klonoa series from Bandai Namco Entertainment, which began in 1997 with its first entry on the Sony PlayStation, Klonoa: Door to Phantomile.
Background[]
Have you ever wondered just where dreams end up going to when you forget about them? It's a mystery for the ages, but it sure hasn't stopped nightmarish forces from trying to cause pain to those in dreamworlds, and that's where Klonoa comes in. Easily recognized by his floppy ears and trademark blue cap sporting a Pac-Man pin, Klonoa is the Dream Traveler, a heroic being who is sent to visit dreamworlds while he sleeps and fix any problems happening therein. While it is unclear where he truly comes from, one thing is for certain; you can sleep soundly tonight knowing that Klonoa's got your back.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Tornado Attack: A special move that allows Klonoa to fly up in the air and unleash several massive tornados towards his opponents.
- Tornado Attack EX: A stronger version of the Tornado Attack. This was only showcased during Klonoa's ending in Klonoa Beach Volleyball, where Klonoa had attempted to counter Chipple's Spinning Punch with it, but accidentally damages the Breezegale windmill as a result of it backfiring.
- Thunder Hurricane: A special finishing move which has Klonoa spin rapidly to create a thunderstorm, stunning nearby enemies and allowing him to take out others in a quick session. Klonoa learned this move in Klonoa Heroes: Densetsu no Star Medal by, ironically enough, having himself electrocuted by tripping over a wire.
Equipment[]
- Wind Ring: Klonoa's trusty weapon of choice, which he always carries with him whenever dreams are in peril. Sometimes it may need a power source for it to function (namely a Ring Spirit like Huepow or a priestess such as Lolo), but other times it operates just fine without something else powering it.
- Wind Bullet - The Wind Ring's signature technique. With this short range move, Klonoa can grab an enemy and carry it above him. He can then use it to double jump or attack other enemies. Depending on the enemy though, Klonoa can do all sorts of other things. For example, if a Likuri is grabbed, Klonoa can have it absorb other enemies, changing its color as a result. As another example, if an Erbil is grabbed, Klonoa's double jump is electrified, allowing him to easy damage foes from above.
- Double Wind Bullet Tornado - This move was only seen in the short-lived webcomic Klonoa: Dream Traveler of Noctis Sol. With two power sources inside at once, the Wind Bullet becomes a tornado that can easily sweep foes away.
- Air Board: With this hoverboard, Klonoa can easily travel quick distances from one area to another. The board was originally a rental board for Joilant's Jungle Slider, but Popka ended up stealing the board, and now it remains in Klonoa's possession.
- Diving Suit: A bulky diving suit which Klonoa can use to traverse underwater areas if needed. Klonoa, being unable to swim, was given this suit during Garlen's Dream Champ Tournament in order to compete with Suiryu.
- Sword: A beam sword, which Klonoa can use to easily attack foes up close.
- Hammer: A large hammer, which Klonoa can use to deliver some hard hitting attacks.
- Beam Gnome: A shield, which Klonoa can use to protect himself from the front.
- Arm Cannon: A pair of arm cannons, which Klonoa can use to heavily damage foes from a safe distance.
- Boomerang: A star-shaped boomerang, which Klonoa can use to trip up foes and deal heavy damage.
Feats[]
Strength[]
- With his Wind Ring, Klonoa can easily carry foes without breaking a sweat.
Speed[]
- Klonoa isn't too fast on the ground, but with his Air Board he can go quite fast.
Durability[]
- Klonoa is able to tank hits from powerful foes like Joka, Ghadius and The King of Sorrow.
- Klonoa has tanked several explosions from behind, specifically from when he blew up the three engines powering Ishra's Ark in an attempt to stop it from connecting Hyuponia, the Kingdom of Sorrow, with the rest of Lunatea during his adventure in that world.
Skill[]
- Klonoa is a skilled hero in general, which was shown best when he beat the bounty hunter Guntz, stopped Garlen's plans and won the Dream Champ Tournament.
- Klonoa has saved entire dreamworlds from destruction, such as when he vanquished Nahatomb, the ultimate nightmare, to stop Phantomile from being turned into a world of nightmares.
Weaknesses[]
- While he can go through underwater environments just fine with his Diving Suit, Klonoa is helpless when it comes to swimming on his own.
- Depending on the game, Klonoa's Wind Ring cannot function without something powering it, rendering it useless in combat.
Fun Facts[]
- According to Klonoa: Empire of Dreams and several Japan-only bios, Klonoa's favorite food is hamburgers. Tomatoes and raw carrots are his least favorite.
- Klonoa's design, particularly from Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil onwards, has often seen comparisons to characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. As Klonoa himself isn't known for running fast, these comparisons are purely surface-level.
