~ King Mickey

Background[]

Before he was a king or even a Keyblade Master, the iconic Mickey Mouse’s story in Kingdom Hearts starts the same way it did in real life, on the Steamboat Willie. He was an underling to Captain Pete and would continue to be in the future, when Mickey, Donald, and Goofy were suddenly assigned not just to be Musketeers under Captain Pete’s command, but to be Minnie’s Royal Guard as well. This was done by Pete in an attempt to easily carry out a plot to overthrow Minnie and become king of the country. This attempt would fail as it normally does in the events of the “Three Musketeers” movie, and from there, Mickey and Minnie would eventually get married, making Mickey the king he is now (though how he and Minnie ended up in a different world and became King and Queen of Disney Castle is still currently unknown).

Around the time he becomes King Mickey, he starts training under the tutelage of Yen Sid to become a Keyblade Master. During this time, the events of Fantasia happen, because apparently becoming a king didn’t stop Mickey from being rather lazy. Despite his mischievous nature during this time, he eventually matures into the person we see in most of the games and masters the Keyblade and gains his own, the Starseeker.

During the events of Birth By Sleep, Mickey begins his Mark of Mastery exam to fully complete his training and gain the Power of Waking. This would get completely side-tracked however, when King Mickey finds himself involved in the plot of Master Xehanort to possess Terra’s body and prolong his own life. He’d decide to steal Yen Sid’s Star Shard, which would teleport him randomly to other worlds, but would always teleport him where he was needed most to help others, whether that be to save Ventus from Vanitas in the Keyblade Graveyard, or to Radiant Garden to help Aqua save a young Kairi from Unversed. By the end of the game, Mickey would come back to Yen Sid, feeling guilty for having ran away during his Mark of Mastery Exam, attempting to leave the Star Shard and his Keyblade with Yen Sid and walking away a failure, only for Yen Sid to stop him, and happily give him back his Keyblade, implying the good deeds he did allowed him to pass his Mark of Mastery Exam.

With Mickey now fully aware of the threat of looming darkness, he would begin to figure out how to prepare himself for any problems it may present in the future. He would somehow reverse engineer the material that dimensional barriers were made up of to create Gummi Blocks and thus, Gummi Ships, capable of bypassing dimensional barriers to travel to other worlds. He would befriend Ansem the Wise and Terranort (who was only going by the name of Xehanort due to amnesia), not realizing that that Xehanort was the same Xehanort who had started the events of Birth By Sleep that would lead to any oncoming threats in the future. This would allow Xehanort to become an assistant to Ansem for years before undergoing his own research under the name of Ansem in secret, which would lead to the creation of the Heartless, his gained understanding of how to use darkness to control them, the discovery that they can create more of themselves through forcing the Hearts out of living things and covering those Hearts in darkness, his discovery of Radiant Garden’s Heart (which resulted in the destruction of the worlds’ boundaries), and his ultimate betrayal of Ansem the Wise, banishing him to the Realm of Darkness, and starting the events of the first Kingdom Hearts game.

Mostly from there on, he would fight the darkness by himself for a while and team up with Sora and his friends later on in stooping Xehanort’s master plan up until the conclusion of the third game and its DLC.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Keyblade Combat/Abilities: Mickey uses the keyblade in a graceful and skilled manner. Due to his small size he tends to employ greatest agility and speed to overpower his opponents rather than using brute force. His skill is shown when he was able to effortlessly kill three Darkside Heartless with ease and with the help of Riku and Sora, defeat Ansem, Xemnas and Young Xehanort as well take on Marluxia, Larxene, and Luxord all on his own until Sora showed up. Safe to say, Mickey is one of the most skilled, experienced fighters in the Kingdom Hearts series. Mickey’s Keyblade Abilities are listed as follows:
    • Sliding Dash: Sliding Dash is a technique where the user dashes forward at high speeds, slamming their Keyblade through any enemies along the way. This can be used to close gaps between the user and the opponent very quickly, as well as lead into other attacks. Mickey is proven to have this through Aqua, Ventus, and Terra using his D-Link in Birth By Sleep, which allows them access to his abilities and spells, Sliding Dash being one of them.
    • Binding Strike: Binding Strike is a technique where the user does a spinning attack that seemingly conducts electricity that wraps around the opponent to bind them in place for a short duration. Mickey is proven to have this through Aqua, Ventus, and Terra using his D-Link in Birth By Sleep, which allows them access to his abilities and spells, Binding Strike being one of them.
    • Heart: In the Kingdom Hearts Verse, A Heart is one of the three parts which comprise a being in the Kingdom Hearts universe, the other two being body and soul. The heart is the essence of the being. The destruction of the body and soul will not kill a being, as the verse lacks a “proper concept of death”, and instead the being will return as a heartless or nobody. Only the complete destruction of a heart will definitely kill someone. A shattered heart can potentially restore itself, as shown with Sora. The heart is made of light and darkness and thus Keyblade Wielders can weaponize their heart through various means though Mickey being a good boi uses the light in the heart rather than the darkness.
      • Light: Light is one half of the heart, and those skilled enough can weaponize the inner light within themselves for various means.
        • Light Attacks: The most common form of Light based used in the series. Basically Light Attacks or Light Magic allows the user to weapon their light through various attacks. King Mickey being one of the most powerful users of the Light can weaponise his Light considerably better than most. In terms of the attacks we have seen King Mickey use throughout the series:
          • Beam of Light: King Mickey can fire a beam of light straight out of his keyblade. During his fight against the Xehanort Replicas he was able to create a massive beam of light with Sora’s help which he used to disintegrate the Xehanort Replicas. This beam of light has also normally been used to remove a being’s heart from their body.
          • Pearl: Mickey can fire an orb of light that homes onto the enemy in Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories.
          • Holy Burst: Used as a combination attack by Riku and Mickey in Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories. Riku and Mickey stand back-to-back while firing orbs of lights.
          • Inverse Burst: Used as a combination attack by Riku and Mickey. The move is the same as Holy Burst, but Riku fires dark orbs instead of light ones.
          • Faithcharge: Mickey will jump up and be surrounded in an orb of light before releasing six orbs of light that home in on the target and deal damage. Mickey can send out orbs of enemies eight times in a row.
          • Lightcharge: Mickey jumps up and spins around while charging into targets and striking them with light-based magic from the keyblade.
          • Sign of Faith: Generates a miniature tornado that sweeps up surrounding enemies before a beam of light fires from the center, knocking all enemies to the ground, leaving them stunned.
          • Holy: This is one of Mickey’s most powerful attacks. Basically King Mickey will surround himself with hovering balls of lights and summon multiple thin beams of light before charging up one massive beam. If fully charged, the thin beam and the large beam will strike the enemy all at once causing massive damage.
        • Light Coating: This is an extremely rare ability that is generally reserved for masters. It involves cloaking themselves with light in order to protect themselves in the Realm of Darkness. Though this does require stamina as if the person is exhausted then it will not work. This ability was used mostly by Master Eraqus and King Mickey.
        • Light Sensing: Keyblade wielders can sense the light within a person as well as use it as a detection for over Light Based users.
        • D-Charge: D-Charge is a technique used by Mickey to manually increase his Drive Gauge at a faster rate than he normally would by attacking and blocking attacks. This comes at the cost of making Mickey immobile and thus, more vulnerable to attacks.
        • Healing Light: Healing Light is a spell casted without the use of MP, but rather a full Drive Gauge. It can not only revive KO’d allies, but fully heal them, and completely replenish their MP (magic points) Gauge.
        • Light Protection/Light Barriers: Mickey can use Light as a barrier in order to prevent himself from getting injured. He does this in Kingdom Hearts 2 when he surrounds himself with a light barrier to protect himself and during his Holy Attack in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.
    • Magic: Magic is a form of combat used by Keyblade wielders in the Kingdom Hearts series. It’s worth noting that, the higher the spell skill (i.e. -ra, -ga, -za) the higher the toll on the caster’s body is. The most common forms of magic in the series being
      • Fire Magic
        • Fire
        • Fira
        • Firaga
      • Thunder Magic
        • Thunder
        • Thundara
        • Thundaga
      • Ice Magic
        • Blizzard
        • Blizzara
        • Blizzaga
      • Earth Magic
        • Quake
      • Healing Magic: Mickey also has shown use of Healing Magic in order to support his allies and friends. This was shown in Birth By Sleep when Mickey was able to completely heal Ventus after he lost a fight against Vanitas.
        • Cure
        • Cura
        • Curaga
      • Time Magic: While King Mickey has shown great aptitude for using the power of the Light, he has also been shown to be quite skilled at using time magic as shown with his use of Stopza. This time spell is extremely powerful as shown when he froze everyone in time. While this is an extremely overpowered ability, it has a huge downside. According to Riku, using time magic uses a great deal of Mickey's stamina, meaning he can only use it once or twice at most before his stamina completely depletes, as such he must be careful when using it. It also doesn’t work on those who have time manipulation abilities like Young Xehanort.
        • Stop
        • Stopra
        • Stopga
        • Stopza
      • Reflect Magic
        • Reflega
      • Mini: Mini is a spell where the caster releases an outward extending blast of magic from themselves, and any enemy hit by it significantly shrinks, which of course comes with the cost of being weaker and more susceptible to damage. Mickey is proven to have this through Aqua, Ventus, and Terra using his D-Link in Birth By Sleep, which allows them access to his abilities and spells, Mini being one of them.
      • Mine Shield: Mine Shield is a spell where the user casts 3 magical mine traps in front of them, that when stepped on, explode and stun/paralyze the enemy. Mickey is proven to have this through Aqua, Ventus, and Terra using his D-Link in Birth By Sleep, which allows them access to his abilities and spells.
      • Auto-Teleport: Auto-Teleport is an ability that randomly enacts when the user is about to be hit, putting them out of harm’s way without having to consciously teleport. Mickey is proven to have this through Aqua, Ventus, and Terra using his D-Link in Birth By Sleep, which allows them access to his abilities and spells, Auto-Teleport being one of them. The power is also largely implied to come from Mickey’s Star Shard, because of the symbol for the ability being his Star Shard.
      • Ultima: One of, if not usually the strongest of the Final Fantasy spell index. The way it works varies game by game, and unfortunately we don't get to see Mickey successfully use this on Master Xehanort before getting overpowered by his Stopza. You can still probably infer that this would be stronger than most if not all spells in Kingdom Hearts, potentially including Donald's "Zettaflare" which one-shot Terranort.
    • Flight
    • Power of Waking: An extremely rare ability that allows the user to travel to worlds by traversing through other people’s hearts. The ability, however, can also be used to change and undo timelines through the use of time travel. This can even go so far as to make users capable of undoing their own death after the fact. The result leaves tears in time. It has been said by Yen Sid that Keyblade Masters know and can perform the Power of Waking (Riku knows it by the end of DDD). According to in-game logs, King Mickey possesses this power, though it’s unknown if he can use it for time travel like Sora could.
    • Teleportation: Using his Star Shard, Mickey can teleport freely. This teleportation has so much range that he can travel to other worlds and dimensions almost immediately (like travelling between worlds throughout Birth By Sleep, and jumping from the “Real World” to the Data-Scape in Re:Coded).

Equipment[]

  • Keyblade: King Mickey has used three different Keyblades throughout the series, those being Star Seeker, Kingdom Key D, and Star Cluster. He doesn’t really have a preference for one or the other - using Kingdom Key D in Kingdom Hearts 1, Star Seeker in KH2, and Star Cluster in Kingdom Hearts 3. In terms of overall abilities that Keyblades have other than magic channeling and close quarters combat which will be talked about later:
    • Keyblade Exclusivity: All keyblades are exclusive to their owner, as they choose the wielder and are connected to their hearts
    • Sealing: The final main application they have is sealing, capable of opening and closing the “world heart,” the collective essence of a world.
    • Conceptual Damage/Heart Destruction: Keyblades themselves are capable of causing conceptual damage. This is based on Xehanort conceptually killing Kairi with his base Keyblade, which he even states that isn't different from any other Keyblade, and Chirithy even explains that when Sora brings back the Guardians of Light, he restored them after their "hearts" were being erased from existence. For reference, Kairi’s heart (an essence that is explicitly neither the body nor the soul) was described as being left in pieces, with Sora having to find them. This is similar to when Sora was split into “conceptual pieces” by Heartless earlier. Keyblades also demonstrate this function by destroying the “existence of darkness”. That being the heartless, who are embodiments of the primordial darkness that at the beginning of creation. This is also consistent with it being the only thing that harms and kills nobodies, who are embodiments of the conceptual nothingness that exists alongside the Light and Darkness. The Keyblade’s light beam ability can force a being’s heart outside of its body. When a heart is removed from someone’s body, their body and soul both cease to exist and are replaced by a Nobody, which while technically being the body and soul of the original person they’re born from, they technically do not exist (which as a result, makes them normally intangible), and they lack any trait from who they were before, because the Heart contains a person’s memories, emotions, and overall identity.
    • Regeneration Negation: The Keyblade negates regeneration, because if a heartless is killed by anything beside the Keyblade, they will return. The Keyblade can also permanently kill the cursed crew in the Pirates world, completely overcoming their immortality given by the curse.
  • Star Shard: A Star Shard is a Gummi Block capable of letting people teleport across worlds, disregarding the laws of dimensional barriers. Mickey used to not be in control of where it would take him or when it would even enact, but he’s long since learned to make use of its powers, seeing as he was able to teleport to the Data-Scape immediately when he needed to. He can also use this in combat scenarios to perform auto-teleport.
  • Potions: Mickey has potions that act unlike any other potion or elixir in the whole series in that they restore only half your health, but also fully restore your MP (magic points), and completely fill the Drive Gauge of the person they’re used on.

Feats[]

Strength[]

  • Comparable to Sora, Donald, and Goofy, who were able to use their combined strength to block a beam from Xehanort while he was empowered by both Kingdom Hearts and the χ-Blade
    • Sora on his own was able to block against this attack for a few seconds before being overpowered
    • Sora can create miniature suns (1.24 Gigatons), drop meteors (104.86 kilotons-4.33 megatons), and destroy the Skoll Heartless
      • Sora can also take on Hercules, a demi-god who launched a 160 ton Rock Monster into orbit, and is even comparable to his father Zeus, who can move stars (422 octillion Petatons of TNT).
    • Kingdom Hearts is powerful enough to cause an absolute purge of every world and then recreate the original universe they all used to make up. It was also the first light in the beginning of the universe, and is the birthplace of all Hearts, including the Hearts of worlds and people.
  • Sliced Replica Xehanort’s attacks
  • Pushed back the combined strength of 12 Replica Xehanorts with his keyblade (Considering that Replica Xehanorts are fairly close to the real thing this is damn impressive)
  • Disintegrated all 12 Replica Xehanorts with the power of light
  • Cut through a Wave of Heartless
  • Comparable to Aqua, who can damage the χ-Blade wielded by Vanitas (though the  χ-Blade was weakened)
  • Very likely scales above Sora’s Heartless (since Mickey is comparable to the strongest version of Sora), which can destroy the Data Realm. The Data Realm is an entire universe. This also spilled out into the real universe as well.
  • Likely comparable to Zeus considering Hercules has been shown matching Sora in combat. Zeus is strong enough to create a constellation (4.22 FOE)
  • Should be comparable to Hercules, who threw all of the Titans into space (659.68 Gigatons - 238.97 Teratons)
  • Comparable to Xehanort, who moved a moon (106.97 yottatons of TNT)
  • Can compare to Ursula, who can create storms (293.75 Megatons - 2.2 Gigatons) and control the ocean

Speed[]

  • Reacted to Larxene’s Knives
  • Reacted to and dodged Luxord’s Cards
  • Intercepted a card thrown by Luxord and slices it in half
  • Reacted to magic fired from Replica Xehanorts
  • Dodged a strike from Marluxia’s Beautiful Dahlia
  • Intercepted Vanitas’s finishing blow and saved Ventus
  • Dodged a wave of Heartless
  • Likely comparable to Zeus (Due to scaling to Sora who can take blows from the Titans who are a threat to/can defeat Zeus). Zeus was able to move a collection of stars to form a constellation of Sora, Donald, and Goofy. (26.3 million c)
  • Can keep up with the likes of Sora, Rikku, members of Organization XIII, Xemnas, and Xehanort in Kingdom Hearts. Sora can react to laser blasts from all directions by Xemnas
  • Comparable to Roxas, who traveled from Radiant Garden to the Keyblade Graveyard (66,000,000c). This could also be much higher given how worlds in Kingdom Hearts are potentially universe sized (170 million x Lightspeed).
  • Comparable to Sora, who can pilot the Gummi Ship, which can fly to other worlds in seconds (Over 1,000,000c). Once again, this could get much higher with how worlds in Kingdom Hearts are interpreted.
  • Comparable to KH3 Sora who dodged this industrial laser. Considering the nature of this laser, it is likely moving at light speed. (0.22c)
  • Reacted to attacks from all 13 of the Xehanort Replicas despite being heavily injured
  • Intercepted an attack from Vantias possessing Venus from striking Aqua
  • Can navigate/pilot/maneuver his Gummi ship in space
  • Can be scaled to Ventus, who was capable of keeping up with Stitch's space craft in hyperdrive, which traveled to earth in a time frame of 130 seconds.

Durability[]

  • Tanked Replica Xehanort’s attacks
  • Survived this explosion
  • Tanked Vantias possessing Ventus’s Wind Attack from the χ-Blade
  • Keyblade can tank Replica Xehanort’s lasers
  • Got hit by a wave of heartless...and is completely fine (expect his clothes)
  • Keyblade can tank attacks from all 13 of the Replica Xehanorts at once
  • Comparable to Lingering Will (considering Mickey is one of the most powerful Keyblade Wielders), who survived an explosion caused by the destruction of the False χ-Blade
  • Comparable to Terranort, tanked hits from Lingering Will (physical strikes as well as his most powerful attack, Ultima Canon)
  • Comparable to Sora, who has:
    • Survived attacks from the Titans, who are capable of restraining Zeus.
    • Took hits from Hercules. Hercules once lifted the sun.
    • Survived a water twister created by Ursula. (283 Megatons)
    • Sora can cut through buildings like butter, and Xehanort tanks that like nothing

Skill[]

  • He is the King of Disney Castle and the Leader of the Seven Guardians of Light
  • Survived the war against the Xehanorts, Organization XIII, the Real Organization XIII, the Heartless, the Nobodies, the Unversed, and the Dream Eaters that lasted about 11 years
  • One of the Seven Guardians of Light and participated in the Keyblade War
  • One of the strongest Keyblade Masters in the entire series
  • Trained by Yensid - one of the strongest sorcerers in Disney History
  • Has traveled to and from the Realm of Darkness multiple times without ever ending up dead
  • Rescued Aqua from the Realm of Darkness.
  • With the help of Sora and Riku, defeated Ansem, Xenmas, and Young Xehanort
  • Has fought Larxene, Marlxuia and Luxord all at once till Sora arrived
  • Assisted in defeating Vanitas.
  • Lit up thousands of stars.
  • Repelled Ansem from taking of Riku’s body.
  • Has saved Sora, Riku, and the BBS cast multiple times

Weaknesses[]

  • While his Time Magic is extremely powerful it drains his stamina significantly (Extremely powerful magic in this universe drains the user’s stamina - see Donald’s Zettaflare). Meaning at most he can only use it once or twice during a battle before completely exhausting him.
  • His Magic also is not limitless and will eventually run out if he uses too much of it at once, relying on swordplay to conserve his stamina/magic without going full out right at the start. (though this can be mitigated somewhat with potions)

Fun Facts[]

  • King Mickey appeared in the season 8 premiere of the popular web series DEATH BATTLE! where he fought against Yoda and won.
