Puella Magi Madoka Magica (also known as Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica or Magical Girl Madoka) is an anime series produced by Studio Shaft and Aniplex and written by Gen Urobuchi. The series premiered in 2011.
Series Dictionary[]
- Puella Magi/Magical Girl: Human girls who have formed an agreement with an Incubator to have a wish granted to them in exchange of being tasked with slaying witches.
- Soul Gem: The power source of a Puella Magi, and the new location of her very soul. It cannot be sepparated from the girl's body or their bodies will become lifeless. If a soul gem becomes tainted, the owner will become a witch.
- Grief Seed: A witch's egg. It is used to restore a Soul Gem's energy.
- Witch: Beings that spread disaster and calamity across the world. They often use barriers to conceal themselves.
- Familiar: Less powerful versions of full grown witches.
- Walpurgisnacht: The strongest witch of them all. She is impossible to defeat by a single Puella Magi.
- Incubator/Kyubey: A messenger tasked with contracting Puella Magi.
