Din Djarin, also known as the Mandalorian, is a character from the Star Wars franchise, and the titular protagonist of his original television series.

Background[]

Din Djarin, better known as the Mandalorian, is a bounty hunter operating in a galaxy far, far away several years after the destruction of the second Death Star and the (seeming) death of Emperor Palpatine. As a child, his family was killed in an attack on his village by battle droids. However, Din was saved by a group of Mandalorians, a tribe of warriors who religiously deck themselves out in unique armor and pride themselves on their combat skills. Taken in as a "foundling," Din rose through the ranks of the Mandalorians and took up bounty hunting, gaining a legendary reputation in the Bounty Hunters' Guild. One mission would bring him to the planet Arvala-7, where he would discover his mark was actually a 50 year old baby of the same species as famed Jedi master Yoda named Grogu. Refusing to kill the infant, Din decided to take it with him, an action that wouldn't only spur the attention of other bounty hunters, but the Imperial remnants that wanted the baby in the first place too.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Expert Fighter: As Mandalorian, the fight is a part to him and makes him a fierce fighter. He was able to defend himself against the ambush attacks of three trandoshan, defeat three thugs without much difficulty and also defeat Death Troopers.
  • Expert Marksman: Mando is extremely competent in blaster mania, whether shooting long or short distance. He is also a sniper.
  • Bilingual: Mando is able to understand the Jawas language, but he does not know how to speak it very well. He also knows a sign language used to communicate with hostile Tusken Raiders.
  • Skilled Pilot:
  • Skilled Mechanic:

Equipment[]

  • Mandalorian armor: Mando wears an armor made mostly of Beskar, metal durable enough to withstand blaster shots. The armor is equipped with several diverse gadgets, such as tech built into its helmet visor which grants infrared vision.
  • Mandalorian vambrace: Mando wears one on each arm. They are equipped with various gadgets and weaponry:
    • Fibrecord thrower: A fibercord whip that throws itself instantly when used. It is also equipped with a grappling hook and can thus be used to climb higher surfaces or pull targets closer.
    • Vibroknife: A knife Mando can automatically draw to his hand thanks to his armor, he can then use it for H2H combat or to throw it at targets.
    • Flamethrower: It reaches a considerable but limited range of several meters. It also stops functioning if the propellant runs out.
    • Sticky bombs: Bombs that stick on surfaces before blowing up within a seemingly adjustable timeframe and variable yield.
    • Whistling Bird missiles: Small missiles made of Beskar that home into targets while doing some pirouettes; they penetrate a target and explode inside their bodies. Described and proven to be effective against multiple enemies, these missiles are also rare, and thus not often used in battle.
    • Flash charges: Devices that create an intense light which can briefly incapacitate the sight of targets. The few hundreds of meters that this light reaches makes it perfect to disorient foes, which Mando has used to approach into a more preferable combat range.
  • IB-94 blaster pistol: A gun that shoots focused high-penetration plasma bolts. Mando is particularly good with it both in accuracy and on quickdraws.
  • Amban phase pulse sniper rifle: A rifle that instantly disintegrates targets, which are usually the size of humans. The two-pronged bayonet part at the end of the barrel can be used to electrocute targets on contact. The rifle has scopes and instruments that can be used to detect targets through thick permacrete walls and even make Mando hear distant sounds/conversations.
  • Jetpack: A device on his back that he can control manually or apparently with thoughts. It lets him fly quickly or moderately at choice, and at considerable heights.

Feats[]

Strength[]

  • Comparable to Trandoshans and Wookies, the latter of whom can easily smash rock with their strikes.
  • Staggered a Blurrg beast with a few punches.
  • Knocked out a Nikto mercenary with a single strike.
  • Exchanged blows with Burg, a Devaronian mercenary who could lift and throw around New Republic security droids with ease.
  • Tore off extremities from droids.
  • Can cut through things that could take heavy blaster shots, such as the hide of a Mudhorn and combat droids with his vibroknife.
  • Fought Cara Dune in physical close quarters.
  • Armwrestled Cara.
  • KO'd a stormtrooper, then threw another one into a crate hard enough to knock him out.
  • Held onto Moff Gideone's TIE fighter as it flew, even as Gideon spun to try and get him off.
  • Crushed a tracking fob underfoot.

Speed[]

  • Can draw both his blaster and rifle at once before any of the four stormtroopers in the room could stop him.
  • Can aim at and accurately shoot targets who are already aiming at him.
  • Caught up to a Jawa sandcrawler.
  • Outran an Imperial AT-ST, which can move up to 90 km/h.
  • Capable of keeping up with Imperial Death Troopers in melee combat, who are capable of appearing like blurs in hand-to-hand combat and were trained to be "beyond human".
  • Reacted to a bypassing TIE fighter, which can reach speeds of up to Mach 1.
  • Blaster bolts move at speeds exceeding Mach 3000, and Mando's own blasters should be no slower.

Durability[]

  • His weaker, pre-upgrade, armor could easily deflect blaster fire without Din even flinching.
  • Survived a shot from IG-11's heavy blaster rifle, the power of which should be equal to similar weapons.
  • Survived electrocution from 8 Jawa blasters simultaneously, after which he fell from the top of their Jawa sandcrawler.
  • Survived being battered by a Mudhorn several times.
  • Took shots from an MK modified sniper rifle, which got deflected by his Beskar armor.
  • Survived being in the epicenter of an explosion caused by the supply battery of a heavy repeater cannon.
  • It is possible that his Beskar armor, due to the legendary status of the metal, could be comparable to the armor of Dengar, who can survive Thermal Detonators.
  • Took shots from blasters of Death Troopers.
  • Took many shots from Stormtroopers, being apparently in pain due to it and his exposure to it being portrayed as reckless
  • Beskar is resistant to lightsaber attacks.

Skill[]

  • Completed a multitude of jobs as a mercenary, becoming a member of the Bounty Hunters' Guild.
  • Claimed to be the best bounty hunter in the parsec.
  • Defeated a group of thugs, fought off a Ravinak and collected his bounty on a Mythrol target.
  • Alongside IG-11, defeated a band of Nikto mercenaries.
  • Destroyed IG-11 and recovered Grogu, an infant member of Yoda's species.
  • With assistance from Grogu and his Force abilities, killed a Mudhorn and recovered its egg.
  • Infiltrated a secret Imperial facility and took out multiple stormtroopers, both from stealth and in combat, and stole Grogu back.
  • Fought off a group of Bounty Hunter Guild members.
  • Assisted in defending a village from Klatooinian raiders and teaching the villagers how to defend themselves.
  • Tracked down and caught Fennec Shand, an elite mercenary and assassin.
  • Assisted in infiltrating a New Republic prison ship and extracting a prisoner before having to escape himself after being abandoned by his team (And also proceeding to incapacitate each member of said team one by one).
  • Escaped from an Empire-controlled city and defeated Moff Gideon, the local Imperial officer, destroying his TIE fighter in the process.
  • Found Ahsoka Tano.
  • Helped Ahsoka liberate the city of Calodan from Morgan Elsbeth.
  • Unintentionally became a potential heir to the title of Mand'alor after defeating Gideon in combat and claiming the Darksaber.
  • Gave Grogu to Luke Skywalker so he could be trained.

Weaknesses[]

  • Still human.
  • Can occasionally make mistakes in combat and, if needed to, can actively let others hit his armor without trying to dodge or block.
    • He can even approach attacks so that they may end faster (The latter is also to harm more attackers using physical blows while weaker than his Beskar is durable. Mando has a solid idea of the durability of his armor and it thus advances the passing of battles to do all this, especially when facing many foes at once).
  • Sufficiently powerful shots or attacks can briefly stun him.
  • Following his Mandalorian code, he refuses to remove his helmet in front of others, even when mortally wounded and with others offering to heal him.
  • Distrustful of droids ((Though has learned to trust them more following IG-11's reprogramming and self-sacrifice).

Fun Facts[]

  • According to the Jawas, The Mandalorian speaks their language so badly that he sounds "like a Wookiee".
  • It is revealed in Chapter 16 that by defeating Moff Gideon in battle, Mando now has the sole right to wield the Darksaber and is thus the rightful ruler of Mandalore.
  • He is the second Mandalorian in the Star Wars franchise to be a main protagonist, the first being Sabine Wren from Star Wars Rebels.
  • By saving Grogu, Mando unwittingly makes him a foundling as he had been in the past and as the Mandalorian creed wants it, he became Grogu’s stepfather, at least until he brings him back to those of his kind.
  • The name of "The Mandalorian" was revealed by Pedro Pascal in an interview conducted by ScreenSlam released on the same day as Chapter 1 of the first season, with the website spelling the name as "Dyn Jarren". He was finally named in the eighth chapter of the first season, with the spelling "Din Djarin".
