~ Booster Gold

Michael Carter, aka Booster Gold, is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics.

Background[]

Michael Carter lived in the future, the 25th century. Born in the year 2442, Michael lived with his twin sister, mother, and frankly terrible father. At only the age of 4, his father ditched the family all for his obsession with gambling. This addiction left behind a debt for them, and they fell into poverty.

But things weren’t all bad. In college, Michael would become a star football player, nicknamed “Booster” for his incredible speed and skill on the field. It definitely looked like he was going to the big leagues. A bright future was ahead, but then it all came crashing down.

Michael’s mother came down with a terrible illness, one that could kill her without proper treatment. Due to their aforementioned poverty, the healing needed was not available. So, Michael risked it all to save her life. He made illegal bets and would throw games for money. After going down the destructive path of his father, he was finally able to get his mother cured. But he was arrested and jailed for his crimes, which sure didn’t go over well with his mother. In an unfortunate twist of events, it looked like Michael’s chances at success went down the drain.

Once out of jail, Michael got himself a job, working as a security guard at the Metropolis Space Museum. The museum housed many images of heroes from the past, the 20th century. Inspired, Michael made a bold move. Stealing a few artifacts from the museum, and taking the security robot, Michael was set to go back in time to the 20th century and change his unexciting life.

Using Rip Hunter’s time machine, Michael made his public debut in the past in a huge way: saving the President of the United States. Just like that, he became famous, and would become the celebrity hero Goldstar.

Or….at least that’s what he WAS going to call himself until he got nervous on live television, misspoke, and got stuck with the name Booster Gold. With his new tech and more that he’d acquired along the way, he served in the Justice League International run by Maxwell Lord and alongside Ted Kord, the Blue Beetle. After this, Booster tended to bounce around from team to team, or go solo. Whether he was saving Gotham by Batman’s side or being tasked with saving the timeline, he’d always do it with a smile and his can-do attitude.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Athletics

  • Gymnastics
  • Hand-to-Hand Combat

Equipment[]

  • Legion Flight Ring: As the name suggests, this ring provides Booster with flight. It is the only piece of equipment stolen from the Space Museum which has survived to the most recent version of Booster's suit unscathed.
  • Power Suit: In lieu of any metahuman powers, Booster Gold uses an advanced microcircuitry-powered all-purpose combat suit that allows him a wide range of options to use in combat.
    • Enhanced Durability: The suit is extremely durable, very lightweight, and easy to wear. The suit itself is able to withstand bullets without losing its integrity (although being shot hurts).
    • Superhuman Strength: The microcircuitry woven into the mesh affords Booster a high measure of super-strength, enough to easily shift twenty tons - and a great deal more if he exerts himself. However, Booster must take into account the fact that attempting to lift things that heavy often causes them to fall apart under their own weight.
    • Force Field Generation: The suit is capable of generating a force-field that in prior incarnations was powerful enough to take a direct punch from Doomsday and leave Booster intact (this fried the force-field though, and eventually the suit didn't fare much better). It remains constant at that level for the current incarnation.
      • Mass Dispersion Field: Booster can use his forcefield ability for more than defense. By reversing polarity, he can not only block objects, but absorb their mass and return it in the same form. Though he rarely uses this power at all, it’s usually for a Reverse Uno.
    • Time Manipulation: At some point between The OMAC Project and 52, Booster had time-travel circuitry built into his suit, enabling him to travel through the time stream, both into the past and the future. The suit has since been upgraded by Rip Hunter to enable him to traverse chronal anomalies without any adverse effects.
      • Time Travel: Booster eventually integrated time travel circuitry into his suit, allowing him to warp backwards and forwards through time at will. Booster has also used it to on occasion gather other versions of himself from different points in time to fight with him.
      • Time Stopping: His future self developed a device that allowed him to stop time entirely and added it to his suit, allowing him to do so at will.
    • Energy Gauntlets: The suit is able to provide powerful energy blasts, via blasters in the costume's gauntlets. At their highest setting, the blasts are capable of plowing through two solid feet of concrete.
    • Visor Devices: Booster's visor is outfitted with both sensory amplification devices (both auditory and visual) and a HUD for targeting and threat-identification.
      • Enhanced Vision: The visor provides broad scanning along the electromagnetic spectrum, providing infrared, ultraviolet, and X-ray vision.
      • Enhanced Hearing
  • Skeets: The security robot that Booster stole from the Metropolis museum. As an intelligent AI, he’s a helpful source of information. He can shoot concussive lasers, fly, hack into all sorts of devices and gadgets, track time travelers, and fake his own death with a cloud of smoke. He’s also a pretty pleasant companion to have around.

Feats[]

  • Successfully stole equipment from the museum to become a celebrity

  • Became the leader of the Justice League International
  • Eventually became Waverider who is a Universal God and the guardian of all of reality.
  • Set up a casino on an island together with his best buddy Ted Kord.
  • Defeated Hyperfly who was going to consume the main DC Universe if not stopped.
  • Able to tussle with some of the strongest heroes and villains in the DC Universe like Doomsday, Green Lantern and Blue Beetle (Jamie Reyes)
  • Helped protect the timestream numerous times despite the fact it got him very little in terms of recognition.
  • Saved the world and most of Earth’s heroes and villains from a Starro invasion
  • Single-handedly took on the Metropolis-based crime syndicate The 1000 and won.
  • Was forced to defeat and kill his own son - Rip Hunter.
  • Defeated Mr. Mind.

Weaknesses[]

  • Boastful: Typical of a showoff celebrity, especially one with knowledge of future events, Booster Gold is overconfident. He won’t always take a fight seriously, and relies a lot on his defensive options and allies. His short attention span and fun-loving attitude sure don’t do him many favors in a fight to the death. Though, he isn’t dumb, that part’s just a façade he puts up so villains don’t try to take him out for being a time cop.
  • Finite Power Supply: In a more practical sense, Booster’s tech runs on a finite battery source. Once his ludicrously powerful suit runs out of juice, he’s essentially just a normal dude.
  • Mental Illness
