Character Profile Wikia
Aqualad (Tempest-Garth) render

Background[]

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Atlantean Physiology: The Atlanteans are offshoots of humanity that are biologically adapted to the deep ocean environment. All their abilities are by-products of their bodies being adapted to survive unprotected in the tremendous pressures of the ocean depths. Garth's physique is considerably heartier than other Atlanteans.
    • Amphibian: Tempest, as an Atlantean, and the son of a wizard and Atlantean queen, can breathe both water and air, but must return to the aquatic environment at various intervals; this length can be prolonged by the humidity in the atmosphere. Tempest breathes by extracting oxygen from the water through tiny pores in his skin.
    • Enhanced Physiology: His bloodstream is filled with an amino acid that keeps his body from freezing in the ocean depths, although his own temperature is naturally quite high, allowing his muscles the heat they need to swim at such high speeds. This hybrid physiology means he can survive indefinitely underwater or on land (though he would still need occasional contact with water to survive) this length can be prolonged by the humidity in the air.
    • Enhanced Senses: All of Garth's senses are adapted to allow him to function unhindered in the harsh depths of the ocean, giving him an advantage on land.
      • Enhanced Hearing: He has several times more acute than human capacity. His sense of hearing is particularly acute.
      • Enhanced Smell: Garth's olfactory abilities, similarly augmented, are able to smell Atlantean blood from one part in a trillion, tracking it all the way around the world and back.
      • Enhanced Vision: His ability to see in the murky depths of the ocean allows him exceptional night vision while on land.
      • Enhanced Taste Buds: Garth's taste buds are far more sensitive than a human's, as he was able to detect an Atlantean poison on pizza when the rest of his team couldn't.
    • Superhuman Strength: Tempest is incredibly strong and is classified as being noticeably stronger than average Atlanteans. He has, so far, been able to wreck steel, destroy concrete, punch a hole through a man's chest and place tremendous force behind his blows making him a dangerous combatant. While the exact limits of his power has yet to be explored, he has been considered as a "tank" for the Titans.
    • Super-Leaping: Due to his incredible superhuman strength, Garth has demonstrated the ability to leap incredible distances and land safetly.
    • Superhuman Durability: Garth can take small arms fire without sustaining injury as bullets simply bounce off his skin. He is durable enough to survive in the crushing pressure of the sea where the water is pushing several tons of water against him every second.
    • Accelerated Healing: Garth's physiology allows for him to recover from injuries at inhuman rates, usually depending of the severity of his wounds.
    • Superhuman Speed: Garth moves at speeds well above those of the world's finest athletes. His agility is reasonably more noticeable when underwater and is just slightly decreased on land.
    • Superhuman Stamina:
    • Marine Telepathy: Unlike other Atlanteans, Garth has a strong form of telepathy which allows him to control and communicate with any aquatic lifeform at will.
  • Magic: Tempest has a breadth of magical abilities. However, because Garth made a personal vow to abstain from using his magical skills, their full scope remains to be seen.
    • Silent Craft: Mainly, Garth's magic is an Atlantean-style magic that in which was taught to him by the Silent School of Atlantis.
      • Eldritch Blast: Garth is able to unleash powerful blasts of mystical energy out of his hands or eyes. These purple blasts are able to incinerate a human target, knock an Amazon clear across a stretch of land or make a hole in a demon's chest.
      • Force Field: Garth has created powerful force fields out of arcane energy multiple times. During his fight with the mages of Atlantis, Garth held up a shield to hold back their magical might. Using a force field, Garth was able to hold back the might of the God Drogue, whose power was said to eclipse the might of Superman.
      • Hydrokinesis: He can mystically control water and water-based solutions for a variety of effects. He can manipulate water currents, create whirlpools and water columns, and boil or freeze vast bodies of water.
      • Spell Casting: Due to his mystical heritage, Garth is also capable of performing large scale and complex spells.
      • Flight: Unlike most Atlanteans, Garth has shown the ability to hover or soar at high speed through an act of sheer will.
      • Mystical Detection: He can sense and locate the presence of mystical beings and identify them as such on sight.
      • Heat Generation: Tempest has the ability to generate massive amounts of heat energy from his left hand.
      • Cold Generation: Tempest has the ability to generate massive amounts of cold energy from his right hand.
      • Dimensional Travel: Tempest has been shown on numerous occasions to possess the ability to open and maintain dimensional portals for a time.
      • Astral Projection: Tempest has shown the ability to project his own and others' astral bodies from their physical forms through his sorcery.
        • Possession: Once he has separated his or others' astral selves from their physical bodies, Tempest can place them inside simple creatures (the shown example being small fish) so that Tempest and his astral companions can control their bodies as if they were their own.
      • Telekinesis: Garth possesses a degree of telekinesis. While he has never shown the ability to outright lift objects with his mind, Garth was able to focus what little telekinetic ability he possesses to extract poisonous chemicals from Aquaman's body.
      • Invisibility: Apparently, one of the first things Atlan taught Garth during his mystical training was how to cast an invisibility spell. He has used this spell to make both himself and Man o' War invisible in the presence of Hagen's guards.
      • Teleportation: While not an ability he can actively control, Tempest has the ability to teleport his body elsewhere when he is in seemingly mortal danger. This ability is one that happens instinctually, and it does not occur every time he is in a life-or-death situation. Still, it is one that he possesses.
  • Expert Combatant: Garth is an able-bodied combatant, gaining his skills from his time as a regent of the Atlantean Royal Guard. He is well-capable of successfully engaging in both armed and unarmed combat.
  • Occultism: Garth studied magic at the Silent School and was one of the to most gifted students during his tenure. He knew enough to incapacitate the Trident Three, who were proficient in forbidden arts.
  • Swimming:
  • Tracking: Tempest was given charge of a team to hunt down Arthur, and thus tracked him across the globe.
  • Weaponry:
  • Leadership: Garth has shown the capacity for leadership. For a time, he served as High Councilor for Atlantis, ruling in Arthur's stead while he was away. Another time, Tempest skillfully led the Titans in a mission to rescue Omen.
