En Sabah Nur aka Apocalypse is an Omega level External Mutant supervillain from Marvel Comics.
Background[]
It’s no secret mutants face unjust treatment in Marvel society, but this story is something else entirely. The first ever mutant was born in the times of ancient Egypt and was immediately an outcast due to being just… UGLY. Like, Thanos level ugly. Thus, he was left to die in the desert. Lucky for him, a tribe called the Crimson Sands took him in as one of their own, training him for years to become an excellent warrior that would earn him the name of “En Sabah Nur” or “The Morning Light”. With his physical might, he was the best of the best and flaunted it frequently, even if the others despised him for it.
But it wouldn’t matter for long. The pharaoh enslaved him and his people to serve under his rule, but through everything En Sabah Nur had been punished with, everything terrible that had happened, he survived to take the power he rightfully should have. Accepting his role as a monster, but yearning to be the king. When he fought off the pharaoh and took his place as ruler, he gave himself the new name of what he would bring upon his enemies. He had become the Apocalypse.
With his insurmountable mutant might, Apocalypse ruled his land with an iron fist and was an unstoppable force to anyone who dared oppose him. He was hellbent on enforcing his ideology of survival of the fittest, that the strong will prevail and the weak will crumble to dust. Surprisingly, his kingdom actually prospered, but ruling Egypt with this idea wasn’t enough; he had his eyes set on taking over the entire world. After centuries, his goals would be made easier by him finding alien technology he would use to enhance his already incredible physiology, giving him not only a boost in his own strength, but new ideas for world domination. He incited world wars, a literal apocalypse, and it took the X-Men, a team of mutant superheroes, to go back in time from the future and stop him. But even then, he would never stay gone.
No matter how many times he was defeated, sealed, or killed, Apocalypse came back to cause disaster and misfortune. He even battled a younger Thor back in the day. But after terrorizing the X-Men and Avengers for so long, thanks to Krakoa, Apocalypse has begun to cooperate with his fellow mutants for a more peaceful world.
Anyway, once an event known as “X of Swords” began, they almost turned our big-lipped antagonist into a tragic hero. After all his battles and despite his lust for conquest, it was revealed that all he really wanted was for his family to thrive. He fought for Moira and his children’s love, because he understood that love is not a weakness, it is your greatest strength. And he almost became a hero in the end, saving his people and sacrificing himself to be stuck in another dimension forever, all for what he loves.
But since this is comic books, he’ll probably be back to his antics soon enough. After all, nothing lasts forever. And no matter what we do, the end times are inevitable, after all, what is more ironic and more dramatic of an ending to all life in the world then the Apocalypse itself.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Mutant Physiology: Apocalypse has constantly evolved to survive, increasing his powers over the centuries. His original ability to control his molecular structure was augmented by Celestial technology and further enhanced through the Celestial armor to become the Evolutionary Caretaker. He was also exposed to at least two different techno-organic viruses over the years, which he assimilated and made his own.
- Immortality: As an External Apocalypse's original body was immortal; even before being modified by the Celestial ship, he had lived for thousands of years. Though he has been put out of commission or seemingly destroyed for various periods of time, Apocalypse can not be permanently killed.
- Self-Resurrection: Like the other Externals, Apocalypse has shown to be able to resurrect himself in various ways, but due to being enhanced by Celestial technology and Techno-Organic Virus, he has been able to come back in unique ways from the other Externals.
- Psychic-Link: Apocalypse is not only immortal like these rare subspecies of mutants, but shares a telepathic-link with his fellow Externals that allows them to not only sense each other and where, but can call on each other at will from great distances. He is also able to sense when one rises from their first death and when one is killed by another External.
- Self-Molecular Manipulation: Apocalypse has control over the molecular structure of his own body and can alter it at will. This means he can adapt his molecular structure to adversity. Apocalypse can perform the following feats:
- Biomorphing: Apocalypse is also a non-terrestrial metamorph, able to elongate like taffy, change into machinery, transform his arms and fists into various melee weapons like claws, axes, swords, tentacles, maces, scythes, shields, etc, and ranged weapons like plasma cannons, separate & reattach his own body parts, and even alter his physical appearance at will to blend in with the world around him.
- Regeneration: Apocalypse's control over his bodily molecules, his External nature and techno-organic cells allow him to regenerate from a single drop of blood. But Apocalypse when sustaining immense amount of damage that not even he can heal, can enter a coma-like state of suspended animation during which he may recover from any wounds with the assistance of his Celestial technology.
- Size Alteration: Apocalypse is able to change his size at will; he can increase or decrease the size of his body by taking on additional mass or ridding of it from a presumably extra-dimensional source.
- Self-Power Bestowal: Due to En Sabah's total control over his molecular and sub-molecular structure, further bolstered by the Celestial technology augmenting him, he can also consciously or spontaneously grant himself with a wide array of new superpowers at will.
- Matter Manipulation: Apocalypse has shown the ability to disintegrate an opponent with a touch of his finger.
- Superhuman Strength: Apocalypse possesses superhuman strength that he can further increase by drawing upon outside energy sources; Apocalypse was shown to be strong enough to physically restrain the Hulk, while the Hulk was separated from Banner and explicitly lacked the ability to increase his strength with his rage, but also had a stronger base level. He is also able to fight and defeat a young Thor armed with Jarnjborn. Hence.
- Superhuman Durability: Apocalypse is highly resistant to injury. With the Celestial modifications, this resistance to harm is amplified.
- Superhuman Stamina and Endurance: Apocalype's body suffers no fatigue, so much so that he felt it for the first time when he experienced degeneration.
- Superhuman Reflexes: He is able to speed up his reflexes and reaction time.
- Psionic Manipulation: At various times Apocalypse has demonstrated differing but vast levels of mental capacity.
- Telekinesis: Apocalypse possesses telekinetic abilities enabling him to levitate himself, or others, by sheer force of will and manipulate living beings, inanimate objects, and to some extent energy, psionically.
- Flight: Apocalypse can enable himself to fly, by either transforming his arms into wings, jets, or through telekinetic use. He can achieve supersonic velocity in this manner.
- Telepathy: He's also an accomplished mentalist of undefined extent. An example of his power would be him battling a weakened Jean Grey (a vastly powerful telepath in her own right) within the psyche space of Baby Nathan and win.
- Telepathic Control & Manipulation: He's able to project his own thoughts and memories or read those of others in order to glean and impart whatever information he desires from them.
- Cyberpathy: Thanks to his synergy with the Celestial Technology bonded to him, due in part to his paradoxical jaunt of afflicting Cable with the T.O Virus, Apocalypse gained the ability to mentally link with and control most any kind of tech and machinery he could reach out too.
- Telekinesis: Apocalypse possesses telekinetic abilities enabling him to levitate himself, or others, by sheer force of will and manipulate living beings, inanimate objects, and to some extent energy, psionically.
- Celestial Energy Manipulation: Apocalypse seems to have a range of energy harnessing and projecting capabilities, either naturally derived or based on Celestial technology built into his physical frame. He can use these metaphysical forces to accomplish a great many facilities; such as illusion & memory conjuration, matter reconstruction, healing as well as total physical restoration of damaged or destroyed bodily tissues.
- Force-Fields: Ability to create nearly impenetrable force fields
- Energy Blasts: Apocalypse can project raw destructive energy from anywhere on his person, be it as concussive blasts from his hands and eyes or even full body energy waves.
- Energy Absorption: He can also absorb energy from outside sources to augment both himself and his overall power.
- Energy Transfer: In his time as Murshir, En Sabah found he could share his celestial force with other individuals to enhance their abilities. Similar to how Galactus imparts his power cosmic upon a chosen herald.
- Teleportation: Apocalypse can teleport himself and others around vast distances across the planet. The ability seems to be artificial, linked to the Celestial technology bio-mechanically incorporated into his body, headquarters, and equipment, and so is not always available to him.
- Sorcery: He can use magic, but the extent of his magical capabilities and knowledge are unknown.
- Immortality: As an External Apocalypse's original body was immortal; even before being modified by the Celestial ship, he had lived for thousands of years. Though he has been put out of commission or seemingly destroyed for various periods of time, Apocalypse can not be permanently killed.
- Super-Genius Intelligence: Apocalypse is an extraordinary genius, and has knowledge of certain areas of biology, primarily genetic engineering and mutation, and technology that are far in advance of contemporary science and technology.
- Omnilingual: En Sabah Nur is fluent in all of human language from across history, including Celestial.
- Expert Combatant: Although he doesn't often engage himself in personal combat, usually relying on servants such as his Horsemen and other allies to fight for him, Apocalypse is a ruthless combatant and was trained at a young age in both hand-to-hand and with weapons such as swords. He often combines his powers alongside his martial skill in battle.
Equipment[]
- The Death Seed: Death Seeds are items given to Celestial-appointed evolutionary caretakers (e.g. Apocalypse and his heirs). When implanted in a person, they give the recipient a "Death" persona, as well as candidacy for being the next caretaker. Death Seeds are said to bestow powers possibly up to the level of a typical Phoenix host. They may have similar properties to the Phoenix Force, as a Death Seed was attracted to Jean Grey because she previously had the Phoenix and she was described as "perfect" for the Seed. The Seed's cosmic energies are infused at a molecular level and cannot easily be separated from its host, but it can be rendered dormant. On Earth-295, a pill was developed to separate the Death Seed from its host, but this method is extremely dangerous as the process causes an explosion. Life Seeds, as their antithesis, can cancel out the Death Seeds. Death Seeds are used by Celestial Gardeners to "grow" Celestial servants to shepherd a planet's evolution. It radicalizes their personality; experienced Phoenix hosts can resist this, but not completely. In general, while there seems to be only one active evolutionary caretaker per planet at a time, Death Seeds can still be planted in others. However, Death Seeds will only "ascend" the recipient as the next Apocalypse if the current one dies, which suggests the spares are of lesser quality. Additionally, if the host dies and there is no spare, the power will automatically transfer to someone else. This does not seem to occur if the Death Seed is neutralized by a Life Seed, as Genocide had to be given a new Death Seed after Archangel's defeat.
- Rejuvenation Chamber: Several of Apocalypse's bases have a rejuvenation chamber. Apparently Celestial technology capable of manipulating the genes of mutants giving them altogether new abilities or augmenting the ones they already possess (The process seemingly has the effect of warping the minds of the subjects more to Apocalypse's way of thinking).
- Golden Helm of Annihilation: During the climax of the war between Krakoa and Amenth, Apocalypse was briefly possessed by Annihilation, but unlike his wife Genesis, Apocalypse was able to resist its control and cast it out of him.
- Control over Amenth: While wearing the Golden Helm, Apocalypse can control the dimension of Amenth.
- Hordes of Amenth: While wearing the Helm, Apocalypse had full command over the hundreds upon thousands of Daemons native to Amenth.
- Scarab: An ancient sword forged by Isca for the birth of his four children, he then shattered it in four pieces after his lost. After Arakko declared war on Krakoa, Apocalypse reassembled the sword for the Ten of Swords challenge. It was eventually destroyed during the battle against Annihilation.

Weaknesses[]
- Due to Apocalypse being altered by the Celestial technology and his power enhancement was that the Techno-Organic Virus was needed to allow this to happen and because of this; that Apocalypse's body is ravaged by the Techno-Organic Virus itself as he must find and switch bodies regularly by transferring his consciousness and powers into a succession of host bodies abandoning each one when it becomes too weak after burning through each body out faster than the last to contain his full power in order to survive making it very important that the next body is powerful enough to hold his immense power. Most of his replacement bodies must wear an exoskeleton body armor in order to contain the vast amount of the power and energies he has in order to prevent it from consuming him from within, weakening him faster.
Fun Facts[]
- Apocalypse appeared in the 9th season of the popular internet series DEATH BATTLE! where he fought against Black Adam and won.
