Sunrise: Amaterasu's original ability, Sunrise brings out the sun when a circle is drawn in the sky, changing night into day. It is also used in the final battle with Yami, breaking his darkness and power.
Attributes: Several statistics are commonly displayed on the game screen in different situations, such as Solar Energy, Astral Pouch, Ink Pots, Yen, and Godhood. Aside from Godhood, these attributes can be upgraded on a sub-menu of the Fan Menu. The number or capacity of these attributes can be increased by injecting them with Praise. If the appropriate amount of Praise is injected the attribute will move up a level, the amount of Praise required to level-up increases each time. Once all Amaterasu's attributes are at their highest level, Praise can no longer be injected and will instead be converted to Yen.
Solar Energy: Amaterasu's state of health. She can increase her potential amount of Solar Energy based on the amount of Praise she has received, or by finding Sun Fragments. After being injured, she will slowly heal by herself; this can be accelerated by consuming Holy Bones or by using the Wood Mat or walking into certain springs. If she completely runs out of Solar Energy, she will die, although a full Astral Pouch can bring her back to life.
Astral Pouch: Amaterasu's relative immortality. Each Astral Pouch, if full, can automatically return Amaterasu to life with her full complement of Solar Energy. She can obtain additional pouches if she has received sufficient Praise. Pouches can be gradually filled up by Amaterasu eating food, or instantly and completely filled by using a Golden Peach. However, unlike the Astral Pouch itself, the Golden Peach does not automatically activate and must be specifically selected and used from her inventory to refill the pouch. Otherwise, she can easily die with an empty Astral Pouch even if she has multiple Golden Peaches in her possession. 4 is the maximum number of Astral Pouches available.
Ink Pots: Amaterasu's overall strength for using Celestial Brush techniques. Each technique uses a certain amount of ink; if she completely runs out of ink, not only does she lose her ability to use the Celestial Brush, but her normal weapon use is also compromised. She can increase her potential number of Ink Pots with sufficient Praise. A Golden Ink Pot speeds up her rate of ink regeneration. An Inkfinity Stone makes it impossible for her to run out of ink while its effects last.
Yen: Amaterasu's available money to pay for items or learning Dōjō techniques. While the yen themselves are gradually accumulated from various sources, her money pouch has a limited capacity; once it is filled, any additional yen simply disappear. She can increase the capacity of the money pouch with sufficient Praise, up to ten digits in money stored.
Godhood: Amaterasu's defensive strength. Allows her to absorb a certain number of attacks without suffering real damage. It is gained or lost by her powers in battle and skill in avoiding accidents.
Celestial Brush Techniques: Throughout their journey, Amaterasu and Chibiterasu obtain various Celestial Brush techniques from the Celestial Brush gods. There are 13 main techniques in Ōkami and 11 main techniques in Ōkamiden. Several Celestial Brush techniques requires a source-target brushstroke, which involves drawing paths connecting the landscape to a demon or Amaterasu and Chibiterasu themselves. When the Celestial Brush is over a valid beginning or ending points, Holy smoke of different colors will be emitted. Additionally, the Celestial Brush can be used to smear ink over a demon's face, causing it to flail its arms in a blind attack. This ability is imperative in farming, as the blind attacks of demons leave them vulnerable to Sub-Reflector Counterattack. Also, when blinded, a demon will not burrow underground or take flight, if it is capable to. Many of the main techniques can be upgraded to secret Celestial Brush techniques by offering Yen to divine springs or by completing optional sidequests. None of the upgrades are needed to complete the game, but they can be useful as area-effect attacks in combat and some of them are necessary for acquiring Stray Beads.
Sunrise: Sunrise is one of the thirteen Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami and eleven in Ōkamiden. It is the trademark skill of Amaterasu and Chibiterasu. Being the sun goddess and the child of the sun respectively, both have already mastered the technique at the beginning of their journeys. True to its name, Sunrise will summon forth the sun in the heavens and light the land to dispel it from the darkness. It can be used for purposes from something as simple as changing night to day or prolong daytime to a great thing, such as dispelling Yami and Dark Chibiterasu's covering darkness on their respective battlefields. To use Sunrise, draw a fully enclosed circle in the sky. The circle can be drawn quickly in most cases, but not haphazardly and must still at least have its beginning and end contacted to each other. Also, the circle must obviously be drawn on the sky. If the sky is not visible, move to a location with a better viewpoint or change the camera's position.
Rejuvenation: Rejuvenation is one of the 13 Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami and 11 in Ōkamiden. It is used to fill in missing or broken parts of objects, by roughly inking in the area of the missing aspect. To paint a larger area at once, use the triangle button or move the Wii remote closer to the screen. In Ōkamiden, Rejuvenation is used by tracing the outline of the missing or broken piece of an object, instead of filling in the missing or broken piece. As one of the least frequently required techniques, there exist only a few instances in which its restorative use is possible. These include:
The river of stardust that spans the River of the Heavens.
The blade held by the statue of Nagi within the Cave of Nagi.
The waterwheel outside Kushi's sake brewery in Kamiki Village.
The missing pole completing Mrs. Orange's drying rack Kamiki Village.
A crumbling stone bridge within Tsuta Ruins.
The wooden bridge to the Guardian Sapling in Taka Pass.
The fragile bridge in Moon Cave.
The third largest of the four columns that surround the Digging minigame (later Mermaid spring) in the eastern wing of the Dragon Palace.
The arrow on the Gekigami statue within the castle on Oni Island.
The crumbling floor during the final boss battle against Yami.
Power Slash: Power Slash is a Celestial Brush technique obtained in both Ōkami and Ōkamiden. It can be utilized to cut in-game objects such as various rocks or trees, open containers, and damage enemies in battle. Power Slash is primarily used to destroy breakable objects such as rocks, trees, doors, urns, etc. among many other things. Power Slash cannot cut things which are permanently part of the environment, like boulders, however. Power Slash can also be used to open treasure chests as opposed to headbutting them, an alternative which proves useful for otherwise unreachable chests that may be submerged underwater. In battle, Power Slash can be utilized against enemies to damage them, although some later enemies and bosses are heavily resistant or immune to Power Slash altogether (save for any potential weak points). Power Slash can also be utilized to deflect certain enemies' attacks (such Waka's swords or Cursed Tree fruit). Power Slash can also be used as a Floral Finisher for certain enemies. When slashed, Demon Scrolls can also be temporarily stunned or even destroyed (if the technique is powerful enough), allowing Ammy to preemptively evade unnecessary battles or escape from being chased by one. Since Power Slash's brushstroke is a straight horizontal line, it has the ability to simultaneously target multiple objects when the camera is panned correctly. Using Power Slash on friendly NPCs will not hurt them, but can produce humorous results. Power Slash can be upgraded to be more powerful, which allows Amaterasu to cut harder objects like iron or diamonds. It can be upgraded in Divine springs that are in two areas of Nippon. One is found in North Ryoshima Coast and the other is in Kamui. In order for it to be upgraded, Amaterasu must pay the maximum amount of yen in each spring. As with all of the Secret Celestial Brush techniques, upgrades are entirely optional as the game does not require them to proceed with the story. However, unlocking these upgrades allows for additional praise to be gained in certain situations, as well as certain collectibles such as numerous stray beads to be obtained.
Power Slash 2: Power Slash 2 is an advanced technique that allows for Amaterasu to cut through iron rocks and certain Demon Scrolls. This secret technique is unlocked upon donating ¥60,000 to the Divine spring on the island northeast of the Dragon Palace whirlpool. Upon reaching said island, Power Slash the boulder with pottery around it, and then enter the hole to find the Divine Spring.
Power Slash 3: Power Slash 3 is an advanced technique that allows for Amaterasu to cut through diamond rocks and certain Demon Scrolls. This secret technique is unlocked upon donating ¥360,000 to the Divine Spring in Kamui (Ezofuji). The Divine Spring is located on a ledge just off the trail that leads to Tuskle's house. At the final bend up, with the iron gate in view, look over the cliff to the right. Below is a cliff ledge. Power Slash the iron rock on the ledge and enter the hole to find the spring.
Greensprout/Hanagami: The Hanagami consist of a trio of monkey gods who rule over three flora-based techniques collectively known as Greensprout. Each god plays a different musical instrument and bestows a single sub-technique - Bloom, Water Lily, or Vine - but in the final battle with Yami, the entire range of Greensprout is recovered at the same time. For all parts of Greensprout, the Celestial Brush will emit green Holy smoke over places where the technique can be used. In addition to representing the Monkey among the twelve animals of the East Asia zodiac, the three different gods visually refer to the proverbial three monkeys of "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil".
Bloom: Bloom, one of the three Celestial Brush technique in the Greensprout awarded to both Amaterasu and Chibiterasu as a result of their finding and freeing the Brush god Sakigami. Traditionally, Bloom is used to revitalize Guardian Saplings, Cursed Trees, Clovers, and landscapes that have wilted away as a result as the Cursed zone in an area. However, both lupine gods can use this power to split open the Bud Ogre and attack it more directly. The technique can also be used to create flowers when drawn on the ground, and sprout massive trees to block enemies in battle if dots are drawn where trees are desired. When used in both games, the kanji for blossoming appears alongside a cloud of scattered cherry blossom petals. Contrary to popular belief, Bloom is not needed to yield Praise or cause humans to come over and pet Amaterasu. Instead, one merely needs to draw a circle around them, which can be done even before the acquisition of Bloom.
Sub-Techniques:
Ink-dots placed on the ground can sprout into trees to stop or trap a demon. This does not work on some surfaces such as sand, bare stone, or ice.
Scribbles on the ground will bloom into wildflowers, but these will quickly fade away unless restoring a patch of cursed ground which has been emitting ominous purple fumes.
Water Lily: Water Lily is one of the thirteen Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami. It is the trademark brush skill of Hasugami, a member of the trio of flora gods known as the Hanagami. Water Lily is a particularly useful technique early on in Ōkami. When acquired, Galestorm can be used to blow lily pads across the water's surface, allowing for faster travel than simply drawing individual lily pads. This tactic is later used for a certain sidequest in Sei'an City. As previously stated, Water Lily is very useful for a major portion of Ōkami. However, once the Water Tablet is obtained, it renders the technique obsolete, except for the aforementioned sidequest. To use Water Lily, draw a fully enclosed circle on the water surface. This creates a lily pad that can be used as stepping stones for Amaterasu to catch her breath between swimming sessions if she ran out of air. Only three lily pads can exist at a time, and when the fourth is drawn, the first one disappears with a bit of sparkles, and so on. A lily pad can also disappear when it collides with another one, or when it is created on magma or poison.
Vine: Vine is one of the Celestial Brush techniques granted to Amaterasu and Chibiterasu during their quests. Vine is used mainly to connect Amaterasu or Chibiterasu to a Konohana blossom so that they may progress on their journey. When a Konohana Blossom is upside-down, another vine may be drawn while in mid-air to the next Blossom. In Ōkamiden, a line may also be drawn connecting Chibiterasu and his partner in order to move Chibiterasu to his partner's location, such as across water or over a gap. Vine is also sometimes used to pull objects together to solve a puzzle. In Ōkami, this is usually done by connecting a Konohana Blossom and a hook (such as those on the Spider Queen's abdomen), while in Ōkamiden, this is typically done by connecting two hooks. In Ōkami, a line is drawn from the Konohana Blossom to the desired object, whether Amaterasu or hook. In Ōkamiden, however, the line is drawn from Chibiterasu to the Konohana Blossom or his partner. This is likely to avoid the conflicts with Guidance which would occur if the line was drawn from the target back to Chibiterasu. In the case of hooks, either side may be used to begin the line.
Cherry Bomb: Cherry Bomb is one of the thirteen Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami and one of the eleven Brush techniques of Ōkamiden.Cherry Bomb allows Amaterasu and Chibiterasu to summon a Cherry Bomb out of thin air. The bomb is very destructive, and is mainly used for blasting cracked walls or floors, but can be used on a variety of things. It can blast demons, as well as other characters, and be rolled around to reach a certain target. It can also float in water. The Cherry Bomb can explode instantly when in contact with almost anything, especially with the use of Inferno. The explosion can be halted with Waterspout or Power Slash. It also explodes when the fuse is burned away. Shiranui had its own modified version of Cherry Bomb, which was a pure white bomb that had a great explosion, similar to an Exorcism Slip being used. Ninetails also had its own Cherry Bomb, a yellow one as if wraped by its tails, it explodes up in a large pink and purple explosion.
Cherry Bomb Upgrades: Cherry Bomb can be upgraded in certain Divine springs after offering an amount equal to the maximum yen amount option there times three. One Divine spring is in N. Ryoshima Coast, which gives Cherry Bomb 2 upon donation (costing 120,000 yen total), while the other is in Kamui, which grants Amaterasu Cherry Bomb 3. The upgrades allow Amaterasu to have up to three bombs on-screen at once. The wording is a little confusing on this, and the player must still draw each bomb with a separate use of the Celestial Brush: trying to draw three bombs at once will do nothing. The Cherry Bomb upgrades aren't necessary to continue the story, but are needed to find Stray Bead #9. It is also very useful when completing Devil gate trial caves. It should also be noted that each Cherry Bomb created uses one Ink Pot.
Waterspout: Waterspout is one of the thirteen Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami and Ōkamiden. It is the trademark technique of Nuregami, the goddess of water. Waterspout is one of the source-required Celestial Brush techniques, needing a source of water in order to use. When near a body of water, one must simply place the Celestial Brush over the water and draw a line to the desired target. The water will be channeled to the target, creating a stream. This can be used to douse objects that are on fire, such as treasure chests or demons of the fire element. It can also be used to fill various objects with water. Waterspout also has a second use. In certain areas, one can find power springs, where water is concentrated. Drawing a vertical line from a power spring will create a tall geyser which Amaterasu can use to reach high places. This can only be done in Ōkami. As with all source-required Celestial Brush techniques, Waterspout uses Holy smoke to differentiate it from the other techniques. Blue smoke indicates that Waterspout's effects will take place once the Celestial Brush is put away, except in special instances.
Deluge: Deluge is one of the eleven secret Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami, and one of the five in Ōkamiden, which is known as Splash. By summoning forth a deluge, Amaterasu and Chibiterasu no longer need a water source for Waterspout. Thus, being a more versatile version of the base technique, Deluge can be used in situations when a body of water is not present, such as in battles, where its potential is best shown. In battle, Deluge can be used to constantly damage demons and halt them in their tracks. This technique is especially useful in battle against demons of the fire element, or when a Great Tengu is encountered. However, despite that Deluge has a longer duration than Icestorm, the latter has a more powerful and effective effect of nullifying the fire element of demons, as well as preventing the Great Tengu from entering Chaos Mode while also being its Floral Finisher, so constantly using Icestorm is more recommended than Deluge. To use Deluge, Amaterasu and Chibiterasu has to draw the mark of Nuregami, || (two vertical lines). The longer the lines, the longer the duration of the rainstorm, but the more ink consumed.
Fountain: Fountain is one of the eleven secret Celestial Brush techniques obtained in Ōkami. Being an upgrade of Waterspout, this technique is also granted by Nuregami to Amaterasu. With Fountain, Amaterasu can use Mermaid springs for teleportation without having to use Mermaid Coins, rendering these items obsolete. By drawing either a swirl or a circle over a Mermaid spring, Amaterasu will activate it. Jump in to teleport.
Cresent: Crescent is one of the thirteen Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami. It is the trademark skill of Yumigami, the goddess of the moon. Crescent is the exact opposite of Sunrise, Amaterasu and Chibiterasu's trademark brush skill. When used, the crescent moon is revealed and change day into night. If it is already nighttime, Crescent will start the evening over again following the sunset. Crescent can be used to access certain events, which only occur at night, quickly without having to wait for night to occur naturally, such as side-quests, such as the Hayazo sidequest. To use Crescent, draw an arc in the sky in the shape of a backward "C".
Galestorm: Galestorm is a Celestial Brush technique given to Amaterasu and Chibiterasu by Kazegami, the god of wind, in both Ōkami and Ōkamiden. To use Galestorm, draw either a spiral or a loop. The spiral, which must be drawn from the outside, sends a forward gust of wind. The loop, on the other hand, creates a gust that blows in the direction it is drawn. In both of these brushstrokes, the size of the drawing affects the strength and duration of the wind.
Inferno: Inferno is one of the thirteen Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami, and one of eleven in Ōkamiden. One of the offensive techniques, Inferno can incinerate foes and deal a considerable amount of damage to demons, especially those of the ice element. True to its name, Inferno is a Celestial Brush technique that harnesses the element of fire. Inferno is used by drawing a line from an existing fire source to a target. With the Celestial Brush, Amaterasu and Chibiterasu can use fire from an existing fire source to burn NPCs, melt ice and incinerate demons. With NPCs, they will be rendered black and smoking (similar to Thunderstorm being used on them). With ice, this frozen substance will obviously be melted, partly evaporating into steam, while the rest diminishes into water. With demons, they will be damaged considerably and rendered as black. For demons of the ice element, they will receive more damage and had their ice defense penetrated. Inferno can also be used to light torches.
Fireburst: Fireburst is one of eleven secret Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami and one of five Secret Brush Techniques in Ōkamiden, and is the sole upgrade of the Celestial Brush technique Inferno. This upgrade of Inferno lets Amaterasu and Chibiterasu create fire on demand. With the seal of Moegami drawn, they can summon massive spheres of fire that has an enormous range (albeit mostly not visible). This sacred fire will deal heavy damage to most demons, especially those who are of the ice element. Fireburst can also be used as the Floral Finisher of demons whose finisher is Inferno, before the Solar Flare Reflector is obtained. To use Fireburst, draw the seal of Moegami (the infinity symbol) on the Celestial Brush screen. The larger the symbol, the larger the flame and the more ink consumed (3,6 or 9 ink pots).
Veil of Mist: Veil of Mist is one of the thirteen Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami. Granted by Kasugami, this technique boasts the ability of time slowing. When used, Veil of Mist creates a thick mist that enshrouds the environment around Amaterasu and slows time down for a duration of four seconds. This ability is very useful, as Amaterasu can snatch this opportunity to attack demons at their weak points or reveal them, sneak by someone, traverse rapid mechanisms, etc. Also, during the final battle against Yami, if Veil of Mist is used, an apparition of Queen Himiko will appear and grant Amaterasu Spirit Globes, but only for a limited number of times. Himiko will always appear when using Veil of Mist, but each use will decreases the number of Spirit Globes bestowed by her prayer. To use Veil of Mist, draw the mark = (two horizontal lines). Note that Veil of Mist's effect will only last for four seconds, and if its use overlaps an already lingering mist, the mist's duration will be restarted back to four second.
Mist Warp: Mist Warp is one of the eleven secret Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami. Granted by Kasugami, this technique allows quick transportation between Ultimate Origin Mirrors in areas Amaterasu has visited. Utilizing the ability to carve one's memories into the eternal storage of time of the Origin Mirror and the Ultimate Origin Mirrors' amplified divine powers, Amaterasu can warp from an Ultimate Origin Mirror mirror to any of them in areas she has visited. This technique is far better than using Mermaid springs in strategical warping, since in most human-inhabited locations, only Ultimate Origin Mirrors are present. Also, with Mist Warp, Amaterasu can obtain two Stray Beads that are in Rocky Areas and cannot be reached by conventional means. To use Mist Warp, draw an X over an Ultimate Origin Mirror while directly facing it by stepping on the circular area of reflection at the mirror's base.
Catwalk: Catwalk is one of the thirteen Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami and is exclusive to the game. It is granted to Amaterasu by Kabegami. With the presence of jade statues of Kabegami, Amaterasu can create a trail of golden glowing pawprints that last for a approximately 30 seconds that she can adhere to, in order to scale along the trail and reach destinations that are usually unreachable. Amaterasu can also stick to the area within close proximity of a pawprint, should she miss the trail in her jump. However, only vertical and diagonal trails can be easily scaled; horizontal trails, without proper timing in adhering back to the trail after a jump, can result in Amaterasu plummeting down below, since when scaling these trails, Amaterasu can only leap upward, then aim her fall to progress along the trail.
Thunderstorm: Thunderstorm is one among thirteen Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami and eleven in Ōkamiden. Obtained by both Amaterasu and Chibiterasu, it is granted by Gekigami. Utilizing lightning sources, Amaterasu or Chibiterasu can electrify their desired targets, whether it is demons or puzzle-solving elements. In combat, Thunderstorm can deal heavy damage to most opponents and paralyze them for a while, making them vulnerable for further attacks. In puzzle solving, Thunderstorm is used to activate mechanism, open doors, etc.
Thunderbolt: Thunderbolt is a secret Celestial Brush technique in Ōkami and Ōkamiden. A stronger variation of Thunderbolt, this technique is granted by Gekigami. Thunderbolt allows Amaterasu and Chibiterasu to summon bolts of lightning without needing a source. The size and damage of the thunderbolt depends on the size of the drawing. To use Thunderbolt, draw a lightning bolt (ϟ). For best results, the lightning bolt drawn should be sharp and jagged, with the end of the bolt on the desired target. Depends on size of the drawing, 3,6 or 9 Ink Pots may be consumed.
Blizzard: Blizzard is one of the 13 Celestial Brush techniques in Ōkami, and is exclusive to the game. Blizzard allows Amaterasu to create a trail of ice from an ice source to freeze either single or multiple desired targets at once. When a target is frozen, it will stay put for a few seconds before breaking free from the ice. While frozen, a target can also be used as another ice source to freeze other targets or refreeze itself. Blizzard also has another unique use. At large chasms with sparkling ice crystal floating within, Amaterasu can draw an ice trail over these crystal to coalesce them into large, floating ice blocks that line into a makeshift bridge across the chasm. However, like glass and ice passageway, this bridge is also slippery, and it will shatter after about 10 seconds, making moving across them quickly an unpleasant task, such as the enormous canyons between the summits of Ezofuji that must be crossed to reach the other part of Wawku Shrine where Lechku & Nechku flew over to.
Icestorm: Icestorm is a secret Celestial Brush technique obtained by Amaterasu in Ōkami, and is exclusive to the game. Icestorm allows Amaterasu to summon a gigantic six-armed hexagonal snowflake that rains down destructive icicles, freezing and damaging anything within its vicinity. This ability has certain advantages over Blizzard, but conversely has some drawbacks. In combat, Icestorm can deal massive damage while simultaneously freezing opponents solid, whereas Blizzard could only perform the latter. Depending on the size of the brushstroke, 3, 6 or 9 ink pots will be used. Even though Icestorm consumes more ink than Blizzard, its range of effect is very wide and has a massive damage output, therefore having a high efficiency on ink consumption. On the other hand, Icestorm cannot coalesce floating ice crystal in chasms into floating ice blocks to be safely crossed. Also, if Icestorm is used on the environment, then the distance of the brushstroke's area of usage can be distorted, because the system does not recognize a small drawing as to be used from afar, but rather creates a small shower of icicles. Using Icestorm on far away targets can be troublesome: since the distance of the snowflake cannot be determined by the size of the brushstroke, Amaterasu has to rely on an high up overhead view to draw the technique over the target, but this frequently is mistaken for a snowflake drawn at a high altitude, instead of an Icestorm drawn on a target. Blizzard does not have this problem, because it is a source-target brushstroke, meaning that its target, or the brushstroke's endpoint, is defined, regardless of distance. In conclusion, Icestorm excels over Blizzard in regards of damage, range of effect and ink efficiency, but lacks the precision that the latter possesses.
Guidance: Guidance is one of the Celestial Brush techniques introduced in Ōkamiden. It is given to Chibiterasu by the children of Michigami. This power allows Chibiterasu to guide his partners along a predetermined pathway, and is frequently required throughout the game. To use it, the partner must first be dismounted Chibiterasu. The brushstroke is a source/target pathway, creating a plume of red Holy smoke as it starts from the the partner and turning the ink red as the pathway is drawn outward. Another red smoke plume may appear from the target if it is a specific actionable object, such as a pressure button or a treasure chest. When the brush screen is released, the main screen preserves a glowing golden image of the red-ink pathway. The partner follows the golden glow to its endpoint if properly drawn; if the pathway leads over a surface which they cannot normally cross, the partner will simply stop moving forward. When the partner reaches that endpoint, they will automatically act on the specific target object, if there is one: triggering a button, or opening a treasure chest and acquiring the contents. If the latter, the contents will visibly float above the partner's head but remain unidentified until they remount Chibiterasu, which then adds the item to his inventory. Kurow can follow pathways across some open gaps, but not all. For example, he can be guided into a quick shortcut across the lake in Agata Forest, but not onto the islands off Ryoshima Coast. If his pathway ends in mid-air, he remains suspended at the target location for a few seconds before drifting downward, allowing enough time for a quick second brushstroke to finish guiding him over a deep chasm before he plummets to his death. Since Ōkamiden has limited manual control for the camera angle, usage of Guidance relies more on automatic camera angles to be usable. This is why whenever Chibiterasu is prompted to guide a partner across an environment on a horizontal plane, the camera always shows an overhead view. Likewise, the camera is arranged horizontally when the partner is guided along a vertical plane.
Magnetism: Magnetism is one of the Celestial Brush techniques introduced in Ōkamiden. The ability is used on magnetic objects, either pulling them together or pushing them away from each other. Magnetism is used by drawing a U shape. A normal U is used to draw objects together, while ⋂ is used to push them apart. Magnetism is used on objects that have a U-shaped marking on them, signifying their magnetism. An U shape is drawn to pull objects together, which is often used for such purposes as moving an object onto a switch or moving an object in Chibiterasu's path to a different place. To move objects apart, ⋂ (an upside down U) is drawn, a skill most often used to open heavy doors by pushing them apart. The skill is also used in battling a Black Imp, as it pulls the imp's floating parts back together to make it susceptible to attacks.
Circle on NPCs: Under normal circumstances, this brushstroke will create a surge of affection towards Amaterasu, causing them to pet her. During digging minigames, her digging partner will be reinvigorated, causing them to run instead of walk. With members of the Oina tribe, they will change between their human and wolf forms instead of altering their behavior.
Dots on Enemies: For every dot you placed on an enemy, they will take a percentage of damage. As if they were being shot with an invisible bullet.
Shield Tree: A tree will spawn from this line. It can act as an emergency shield if your timing isn't good for blocking.
Equipment[]
Divine Instruments: Divine Instruments are heavenly weapons Amaterasu and Chibiterasu use in battle. They appear floating on their backs and can only be used during battle in Ōkami. In Ōkamiden, they can be used to break pots or attack demons encountered outside of Demon scrolls. There are three categories of Divine Instruments.
Reflectors/Divine Mirrors: The first class of Divine Instrument obtained in the beginnings of both games. They can only be used for a close-range attack when set as the main weapon and act as a shield to block attacks when used as a sub weapon. The Reflector is an excellent generalist weapon and a perfect choice for beginners to Ōkami, as well as experts who are well versed with the combat of Ōkami.
Divine Retribution: Reflector received from Sakuya. Banishes evil with divine power.
Infinity Judge: Reflector marked indelibly with the loop of infinity. Judges evil.
Purity Reflector: A perfect mirror that burns evil.
Snarling Beast: Reflector marked with a beastly seal. Grants Ink Bullet Power.
Trinity Mirror: Reflector marked with knowledge, faith, and power. Tramples evil.
Truth Mirror: No lie can stand before this mirror.
Solar Flare: The greatest level of "Reflector" available. Utilses magnificent flames in its melee assault against opponents. Due to the fact that this is the standard "Reflector"-class weapon for Shiranui (the full-power incarnation of Amaterasu in mortal form), and the name of the weapon itself, it is possible that the heat generated is equivalent in some way to the Sun's.
Rosaries/Holy Beads: The second class of Divine Instrument obtained (the last in Ōkamiden). They can be used for a long-range fast-striking attack when set as the main weapon and can be fired like bullets when subbed. With lower attack power than other Divine Instruments, the Rosary takes a little more effort to master and is generally used to build Godhood in Ōkami. It should be noted that in Ōkamiden the Rosary attacks less rapidly than in the former game.
Devout Beads: Holy Rosary capable of rapid attacks when equipped as a sub-weapon.
Exorcism Beads: Purifying Rosary that contains the power of holy light.
Life Beads: Rosary that draws upon pure life energy to destroy evil.
Mystic Beads: A jewel where dark and light resides.
Ressurection Beads: Rosary that uses divine light to guide lost souls to the right path.
Sun Beads: A bead whose captured light burns evil.
Tundra Beads: The greatest level of "Rosary" available. The beads use the element of ice to freeze their opponents, as they attack with violently fast and repeated chain-based attacks.
Glaives: The last class of Divine Instrument obtained (the second in Ōkamiden). These launch a charged attack which can be devastatingly powerful when fully-charged if equipped as the main weapon. When subbed, it can perform a powerful wide-spread strike which can also be charged. Glaives are generally the most difficult Divine Instruments to master with the hardest timing involved and slow attacks, but are a favorite for many veterans to Ōkami. Glaives in Ōkamiden have less charge time than those in the predecessor game.
Tsumugari:
Seven Strike: Glaive whose edge is divided into seven parts. Grants Ink Bullet power.
Blade of Kusanagi: Jade-edged Glaive obtained upon the defeat of Ninetails.
Eighth Wonder: Glaive wielded by eight-armed beast god. Ink Bullet power.
Light Sword: Cuts down evil with the moon's light.
Feather Sword: A sword made from a sacred tree.
Thunder Edge: The greatest level of "Glaive" available. The glaive is infused with the spirit of thunder and lightning itself, allowing Amaterasu to fire off a personal reserve of electricity with every blow. In addition, its cutting strength is sufficient to casually slice through even diamond-level materials (it is five levels [possibly five times the cutting strength, by extension] of "Tsumugari"/"Tsukiyomi", the legendary blade that was capable of lopping off Orochi's eight heads, where even the diamond-slicing "Power Slice Lvl. 3" cannot succeed).
Providence Crystal: In Ōkamiden, the Providence Crystal, a weapon that belongs in none of the other classes, is obtained after beating the game (in New Game+). It attacks by firing various elements at opponents and is the easiest and most powerful Divine Instrument available. Unlike other Divine Instruments, its design is not based on the Imperial Regalia of Japan. There are no other Divine Instruments with a similar appearance or ability, leaving it as the sole member of its "class".
Tenjin Gahitsu (Celestial Brush): The staple power of the sun-goddess Amaterasu, the Brush enables her to temporarily freeze time and perform actions on a special scroll with a unique blend of ink, which are then projected properly into the surrounding real-world environment. For example: drawing a straight line of any direction on an opponent activates the "Power Slash" ability, slicing into the enemy.
Feats[]
Strength[]
Her Power Slash can cut through trees and demons like paper.
She's strong enough to cut through diamonds.
Was able to push back Yami, in his giant ball form (100 tons if assuming iron composition)!
Given that she's a Sun Goddess, she can move not only just the sun, but the moon around too (73,500,000,000,000,000,000 lbs/17 0s)!
Her whirlwind powers are strong enough to move entire clusters of stars!
Once added stars to a constellation!
Speed[]
Her time stop is able to catch things that can teleport.
Her reaction time is so great, that she's able to dodge things in mid-air.
Durability[]
Skills[]
Was able to beat Orochi, all on her own... well, until Nagi came in and finished it for her.
Defeated the Ninetails.
Defeated the Emperor of Eternal Darkness itself, Yami... even after having her weapons and brush techniques taken away.
Weaknesses[]
Her power depends on how many people worship her.
If people stop worshiping her, she becomes drastically weaker.
She also cannot use her Celestial Brush if she runs out of ink pots (although this might be gameplay mechanics).
